I hope Goverment will concern about those low-incomes just like me and stop increasing everything. Why Goverment salaries must increase when they already given alot? Goverment always said, is for our good, i dont agreed with it. EG: We have already pay Road-Tax, why another ERP came out? Instant cash for goverment to earn? In future, many Singaporeans will immigrates to other country once they earn, Singapore is too expensive for low-incomes family.

There are many areas where either revenue can be raised or expenses cut. I've listed out a few in this article I wrote last month. In fact, in that article, i didn't even mention about how Mindef can trim off a huge amount off its $10bn budget which never goes down, regardless of how the economy does. Any guy who has been through army or reservist can see where all the fat is. Unfortunately the Official Secrets Act prevents me from explaining further.

The fact for the lavish government buildings are simple.
They build government offices with malls and shopping at the lower levels and office spaces available for rent on the upper levels.
All for the good of collecting revenue in the form of rental.
Yes they may claim they need space for documents for this section of people or for that section of people. But they do not disclose the amount of revenue generated from rental.

secondly these spending on upgrading as they say are part of the election promises which they are to uphold. In the end with any form of upgrading, it is the residents of the particular community which comes up with the money.

Thirdly, there is a saying " a family business cannot be carried forward till three generations due to the mismanagement of the 2nd and 3rd generation."
Having not fought for a position and given a lot of money in the pocket. One does not value the true importance of money. since it is not earned.
The current MPs are not the pioneers and with their good pay checks, they want more pay for themselves and do not see the source. The goose which lay the golden eggs. They feed the goose propegenda and hope more golden eggs are coming. When they see none, they want to kill the golden doose to get all the eggs.

............. Shin corp a lot of lost and a lot of golden eggs gone down to Tharksin's pocket.

One item really stands out like a sore thumb literally and financially : The New Supreme Court Building $208,000,000.00 for a Space Ship that does not fly.

How many Judges use that building?

There the logical question how much did We have to spend to house per judge per Court room?

Really an extra terrestrial question.....Why are tax payers' hard earned money being used so frivolously?

I only feel that the lift upgrading is useful. The rest can be actually be scrapped. No point beautify this and that.

Using the excuse that it will increase the worth of the flat sound stupid to me. If every flat is being beautified, won't it be the same if you buy the flat here and there.

The HDB board always come out with unclear figures about their HDB price rebutting every single claim that HDB are over priced. Definitely HDB are overpriced. Why is it that last time a flat can cost only 70-80K but now we have to fork out near to 200k?? Don't tell me the extra money goes to beautifying the flat. This can actually be minimised as the end of the days, we just want a comfortable flat not a visual pleasing HDB flat.

Let's not forget about another justification to raise GST: to compete with Hong Kong in anticipation of its implementation of GST and hence potentially gaining competitive edge over SIngapore. Now that Hong Kong has dropped the GST idea, with REAL 9-month consultation with its people (the GST idea was dropped 6 months into the consultation process). Yawning bread www.yawningbread.org has an excellent blog on this.
