How else would you explain that despite Myanmar's atrocious human rights records and the disgraceful way Daw Aung San Suu Khyi is incarcerated, Myanmar still remains a respectable member. It seems that everytime ASEAN meets, it's just a photo opportunity for the politicians to dress up in ethnic uniform, smile and interlink hands superficially. There is no common ground. Even an economic incentive is also not viable because of the diversity of interests and divergence of views.
