We read this and We re shocked.
Since we ARE an agency and we DEAL with both applicants and emploers, I can simply say that if ever one of our employers will just THINK of such thing, there will be no caregiver left to abuse for we would PULL her out of there in a flash and the employer can clean his own mess.

We call upon ALL AGENCIES globaly, PLEASE protect your caregivers and DH'S not only the EMPOLYERS. if you see or sense an Abusive employer, PULL OUT your worker.

Ho doc,

Yes, I think everyone can do more - govt and the people. Well, lets hope the govt get tougher on maid abusers.

Glad to hear that you'll be writing an article on the issue. Would you like to collaborate with TOC on it?

Drop me a mail if you'd like to: theonlinecitizen@gmail.com

Thanks.

Regards,
theonlinecitizen

Hi OnlineCit:
It is disgraceful how we continue to tolerate mistreatment of domestic workers.
Even now, there is no mandatory day off per month ( the employers can pay the worker in lieu of day off)!
I will be writing a post on this very disturbing issue once I have the time.
This time, we the people must take the blame ( not the govt) altho the security bond ($5K) make the employers keep the workers within armslength 24/7!

Sometimes, what lies beneath may manifest itself in seemingly innocuous forms when other outlets are shut off.

It's freakish behaviour and I've been opening my newspaper in the last couple of days getting more and more horrified! Seriously, I'm feeling ashamed about this. Any abuse is unacceptable.

Strangely, I've tied it in my head to other behaviour I see around me.

On Friday I was standing at the stoplight waiting to cross the road to get to the MRT station. A guy had just dropped his wife at the station and pulled out of the stopping-bay and back onto the road to drive away. From 300 meters away some guy slammed down on his horn and kept it going all the way past where I was standing. By this time of course the car that had pulled out was up-to-speed and hadn't slowed down or disturbed anyone.

A few weeks ago someone visited me from South Africa. Having changed planes in BKK, they flew there to here on a budget airline. She was telling me how shocked she was when the gates opened and a mad scrum pushed through to get on the plane. She was actually pushed out of the way. A woman standing next to her at the airport turned to her and said "oh, they're Singaporeans, they do that".

Are we some kind of tinderbox waiting to ignite? On the surface everything seems so polite, so calm, so co-existingly wonderful. But the ugly cracks in the surface sure seem to be showing.
