Making health cost expensive, will have long term consequences. Just imagine, a communicable disease break out, and should it happen to a person too poor to seek medical help, the danger of the disease spreading right across the island is both real and not unimaginable. Storing problem for the future? Another short sighted policy? It seemed, every issue is framed in term of financial cost regardless of the potential consequences to the country. I would willing accept the situation if the country could not afford it but we are economicaly and financially sound to provide it and make it universally available to all Sinkaporean and those who visit us. personally I had never had to use the medical service all my life but I would not go as far as to say I will never ever need it. Age will catch up with all of us and in old age, we all know our body will need remedial action from time to time.

I have always wondered why drugs in Malaysi, Thialand, China is so much cheaper than in Singapore. It is enlightening to know that the high cost of drugs in Singapore is due to licensing feee....I always thought its was due to rentals, or poorer quality stuff.

I would encourage the Singapore pharmaceutical association to do an objective analysis for the public about the cost differentials for their drugs between countries and the reasons why.
