As a prospective teacher in a homosexual relationship going for my credential, I know that it is imperative to keep my personal life and professional life separate. Children never need to know personal details about my life and I will not offer that information because I am an educator, not a friend. Having grown up gay in a widely unfriendly environment I will perhaps have a unique perspective about the harms of discrimination and such, but my instruction and enforcement of school regulations (including ones relating to homosexuality, or defamatory remarks) will not differ from any other teachers. It isn’t my job to pull a student aside and attempt to share my life experiences to show him how it might be hurtful to treat someone a certain way, because they’re never going to truly understand unless they live through it themselves. My job is to maintain discipline, educate, inspire, and prepare students for college. At least that is what I can hope to do.

Being homosexual or heterosexual doesn’t indiscriminately make you a good or bad teacher. Both are susceptible of being bad teachers. In fact, both could be far from the perfect ideal of a good person. Often in our arguments regarding sexuality, we often forget that a person’s sexual orientation is just one of many parts that completes a person. I agree that as a teacher, a certain level of discretion is needed when dealing with children, but this is not limited to sexuality. It is equally unacceptable, for example, if a fervent Christian teacher inject his/her Christian/Jesus ideology into the minds of a multiracial classroom. If a Buddhist child is in the presence of a openly Christian teacher who has no discretion in touting the merits of Christianity, then goes home to question the validity of the faiths and beliefs of his parents, would we say that is a problem? We are all free to live as we choose, within reasonable moral guidelines. We don’t have to hide who we are, but no matter our profession, we should never impose our lifestyles on others, especially not kids.

Many people declare that homosexuality is a lifestyle choice. However, what actually is the attraction behind it? Crudely put, physically there doesn’t seem to be the convenience. Emotion-wise, statistics have shown that homosexual couples are three times as likely to break up as regular ones( personally I think it could be because each homosexuals are at risk of being 2 times more jealous than heterosexuals since there are also bisexuals out there.) Also, is there truly a need to outrightly declare your personal orientation? You may be a Man Utd supporter but if you wear Michael Owen on your jersey to a Liverpool game you’re asking for trouble.

No amount of logic or facts will detract someone who insists and prefers to discriminate.
Discrimination gives the discriminator a sense of POWER of self superiority to judge, to feel better. It is made on the foundation of exclusion, PRIDE and judgement; everything TRUE CHRIST like teachings are very much against. Yet, we have so many self deluded self professed x-tians drum up their self righteous views and offensive stance against another creation of God. This is worse than any disease claimed against being gay, handicapped, colored, a minority…etc.
This is pure EVIL ! pure & simple.
When someone refuses to see another as an equal creation no matter what, the seed of evil is planted. It will grow and color one’s perception. It will handicap one spiritually and mentally. It will consume one with one’s own flames of self delusion and importance and often ABUSE.

It’s unfortunate that Singapore chooses to be deliberately BLIND and oppressive to minorities or those not in their animal farm circles with discriminatory rules and policies. Nevertheless, God’s wrath will smite this modern day Sodom & Gomorrah soon enough. He works in mysterious ways. Together with KARMA, all guilty of hurting the least of his brethren will pay the price.

Fret not those persecuted, there’s no need to prove anything to anyone. Live your life truthful to yourself and be of service to others and with enough Love & Gratitude to make your existence on earth PROUD. Vengeance belongs to the Lord.

Homosexuals should not teach impressionable children or counsel vulnerable adults and teens. Their emotional and orintation sickness will poison their attempts and worse, they may be liked by confused students who in turn will support homosexual rights and the homosexual agenda.

Get homosexuals into counselling. Let them heal and be cured and made normal… to marry and live right.

I am in the pro Repeal camp. However, I am also a father of 3 and a ‘conservative’ in certain areas. Unfortunately, I cannot but feel what Rebecca feels – it is irrational, mean and uncaring kind of thoughts – and I am guilty of it at times. Eg In Sunday Times there was an article about a Leonard becoming a Leona. If she was a teacher in a playschool, or a secondary school, would our public feel comfortable about such an ‘outing’? In my mind, I am proud that Leona has shown transvetites a way forward, to help the small minority of people in such situations, but I really doubt if our society is ready for such openess – and yes, we must continue with the work to open the minds of people, cos I still believe in the pledge, regardless of race, language and religion and sexuality.

I have 2 pre-school daughters, if we have a choice from the schools/MOE not to have our daugthers educated by any gay teachers then it’s ok to have gays as teachers. Teachers are educators, they educate pure young minds. Being gay is not only about someone’s choice of sexual preference but the distorted state of the mind. Did you ever wonder why God should create man & woman instead of man-only or woman-only if we are to be attracted to the same sex? Remember the phrase “opposite attracts”.

Everyone has the right to choose their own life and religion. But when it comes to teaching profession, the MOE is the master. They can set the rules.

Who are you to tell me what to do ?

I just post my view. I am not in MOE to set rules. They can adopt my view or reject my view, it is up to them.

Of course they should be allowed to teach. I’ve had a few flamboyant teachers before whom everyone suspected to be gay. They are as competent as any other teacher and are in fact more fun in the classroom.
