I think we are matured enough to be wary of any kind of external threats. As far as the country's security interest is concern, in my view, we are capable to manage it well. With the security and safety system well in place, should be able to deter any kind of threats whether internal or external. I'm confident with the efficiency and reliabilty of our security agencies like the police any attempt of disturbances will be effectively thwarted. And with that good regulated security system in place there's nothing to be fear about the staging of a peaceful demonstrations of good intent. We had enough, for so long being treated like a small kids that never became real adults after forty-two yaers of independence.

Aberdyn,

It's a case of external security dilemmas in our initial statebuilding efforts brought into the domestic scene.

They've successfully applied the argument that we're in a precarious position and that a domestic scene that's seen to be united ( be it artificial or not) is important to try and reduce our security ( both tradition and non-traditional ) dilemmas at the international level

It seems that the Singapore government do not dare to see any forms of freedom of expressions by means of orderly public protest that was obviously harmless to the security beings of Singapore. Be it a street demonstrations,a congregations or rallies in the country. I do not understand why the government was so afraid of these activities be held here for the purpose of human rights awareness even though it has got nothing to do with the government directly e.g. like the recent shows of support to the Burma's political uprising in Myanmmar. The protest was only allowed to take place in a confine area. As the citizen of the world and as a human being we do have feelings too towards others sufferings and to express our disagreement on the violence and bad treatment of the Burmese government towards its citizen. As citizen of the world, we are merely giving our moral support to the Burmese people. Unfortunately, an open public protest of demontration was not allowed by the authority. We do not know when can we be a real adults like other democratic countries that you are given the liberty to speak your mind, of course in within the ambit of the law.

Hmmm... I wonder if the 'Walk for Jesus' to be held this Sunday to "enlarge our territories" and protest against the action to repeal Section 377A will be allowed, or will there be interception/interference from the Police?!

Perhaps the term "possibilities" refers to the possibility of things not being allowed to happen?
