No doubt it is autocratic and elitist but it can count on solid bases of support for its continued rule... even if the support is of the grudging apathetic variety. When push comes to shove most Singaporeans would choose a PAP government, though perhaps not by the majority that the heavily jerry-mandered elections reflect. In that sense the comparison would not be appropriate, because the two regimes you mentioned are anything but popular. And please no Singaporean Benazairs. The only thing protecting her from widespread censure for her corruption is her precious family name (sounds familiar...?)
