Correct me if I am wrong, everybody in life hopes to own a house and a vehicle in order to live in happiness. If we have got a problem of being unable to drive or ride on the road, even if we knows how to drive or ride on the road. What is there in this country which can attract us to stay here and live happily? To join the Mrt passengers every morning like a tin of sardine fishes? Think of those bigger countries which can give us a better living standard, which country is better?

The total number of people in Singapore are growing. Take the number of visitors a day, foreigners working here and their families.

If you are concern about Singapore citizens and PRss, that is not an issue. Net can be widen to get more to be citizen, instead of strict critiria in admitting them now. However the strict population ratio might change.

If the government want the ration to be about the same as before, they will still select foreigners to be Singaporeans. Some people call this racist.

If their salaries are benchmarked against the top earners and if it does not stipulate that these benchmarks have to be citizens, do you think they care about you? Let's face it folks, citizens are the base of the new pyramid for everthing here and including rights. Foreigners' needs are heard, not citizens'. It is no wonder more people want to emigrate and won't be surprised if the actual percentage is higher.
The FT policy is causing discontent with citizens, they know it and so we start to see efforts to 'smoothen' their integration.
We should consider a Defense Tax levied on all foreigners since citizens are conscripted to protect them or they should also be conscripted for Civil Defense duties over weekends equivalent to our NS stints!

Correct me if I am wrong. Is the writer concerned about a shrinking percentage of (native) Singaporeans and the possibility of us becoming the minority? Does that matter?

What is more important to me is how Singaporeans are being treated compared to PRs, foreigners etc. As of now, we are the majority, but are we valued more than the rest? The elites are a minority but do they get the crumbs?

Dwelling on the numbers will only distract from the main issue - how the government values and treats us citizens. Apparently not very well, as even the foreigners have the audacity to bully Singaporeans, knowing that the government values them (more?).

hello, maids in foreign earns alot of money so that they can even send money back to their families to build houses. I wish this could be the situation as the commoners here are slaving their butts away!

the so-called foreign talents and PRs are flexi-force concept, aka contracted staff. not only do they bring in money/taxes but also investment. the other idea about bringing in these people is to tell singaporeans to work harder as if you do not, I have these flexi-force to back me up.

If 1 in 50 Singaporeans aspire to migrate, then something must be damn f**king wrong with this country.

I have a feeling that our Gahmen is not forthcoming in revealing the true statistics such as how many of our Singaporeans have given up their citizenship, or how many of our new migrants have become citizens and in what proportion of them are chinese, indians, malays, etc., for fear that our sensitivities are being provoked. But still, I am not convinced that our Gahmen does not have a hidden agenda.
