It is very sad that such injustice still happens in Singapore. Common sense overwritten by rigid conformation to the "right" way of doing things. A "Doing the Right thing VS Doing things right" scenario. Seems like the latter happens in most cases of injustice.

By the way, i remember that there are organizations that provide free legal aid in s'pore. I did a search and found this.

P.S. to Editor: Will you pls make sure Mr Ng get this link and seek legal aid for his friend? thanks a lot.

Chew, your comment reminds me of a comment an FT made to me after reading about some case before the courts many years ago. "Singapore, one country, two justice systems".

Only 3 groups of people in Singapore can get justice as long as they are not up against PAP or their affiliates.

1) PAP, their families and those working for them.
2) The rich
3) The foreigners

It appear to me that the whole renting process is already illegal as you can only rent out your the entire HDB flat after getting the approval from the authority. Or you may rent out your rooms when owners are staying in the house too (no approval need) . The market practice of locking a room while renting out the rest of the premises is Illegal !! Do not be fool by "unethical agents" who claim that that is the "normal" practice.

You should expose the agent name & write to the company he is representing. This particular agent doesn't deserve to be in the property Industry!

This brings up an interesting issue. Lawyers, do they strive to do justice? or just earn a big fat paycheck because of societal concepts? You know, study hard, score good marks, become doctor, become lawyer.

I know this is an issue throughout the world that the majority of ppl becoming lawyers are just there to represent the people who can afford them. Like hired guns.

So justice is there for only the people who can afford them? That by itself is already a flawed judicial system if the poor are not given free representation. It should be their right.

I had a similar experience in the Small Claims Tribunal Court.

Those who studied previously in NTU could attest that sometime in late 2004, there was a laptop scam. The culprit was selling laptops at rock-bottom prices in a fair organized by the student union. Later on, he claimed that his supplier ran away with the money, and there were some 100 students with more than $100K deposits with him.

The case was being brought up to the SCTC, in which the registrar brushed aside our concerns (students being represented by the school admin office (SAO)) that this man was a crook. He even told us to give him time to repay, like a father to a child.

After some time, the police found out his criminal acts and he was put in the gallows. Needless to say, the money could not be recovered. That crook happened to be a NTU student too, a twist in the end.

I am utterly disappointed with our judiciary system. Something must be done to stop this stuck-up and arrogant behaviour.

Expose not only his agent but his agency, ie ERA, HSR, Propnex, Dennis Wee or whatever. Pressure the agency management to do something. This is a period where the IEA is facing pressure to clean up the industry. Now is right time.

Justice can be done only when you have the money to sue somebody.

Remember TT Durai. That's why he needs lots of it.
"Peanuts" salaries
+ Bonuses
+ Credit Card Charges
+ Overtime
+ Cash in lieu of annual leave.

Now maybe I know why our PM & Ministers needs to be paid world class salaries.

"Get an interview from the TV station. Bring this matter out into the public to warn many more elderly people who intend to rent their apartments. Expose such inhuman agents."

Why? Why must a person go onto TV to get attention.

It is because the owner is illiterate, don't know her rights and the law is mocking her really.

Read mrwang's latest blog (http://mrwangsaysso.blogspot.com/2008/06/if-very-sick-man-was-about-to-die.html) and you'll be left fuming too.

Absurdity. Ridiculously stupid. Smacks of elitism and oppression of the lowly and common citizen.

And MM Lee dares to claim that Sinpapore has a first world judicial system. It's one big farce that he's pulled over everyone's eyes. There is often no justice for the average person in Singapore.

It makes my blood boil to read stories like these. What is our justice system doing? Only good for defamation suits against opposition politicians?!

I really wish that there'll be some righteous lawyers out there who's willing to provide any pro bono legal advice - hopefully TOC is able to reach out to the people who will be able to assist them in any way.

RH: Everything becomes clear when you realise that the agent culprit is most likely a PAP member, maybe even a grassroots leader. Such types abound. There are >20,000 PAP members last count, most of them equally unscrupulous and dishonest as LIE KY LHL from whom they example.
