First of all, I don&#039;t have any superior, except God. I am a retiree and not answerable to anyone. 

Secondly, why would I or anyone want to sue Al-Jazeera? All reports are bias in some way............it&#039;s just important for us to know, so that we cannot be swayed so easily. 

As for Mas Selamat case, it is not for me to answer. However, if I can&#039;t give a better suggestion how it can be solved, would it be wise for me simply to criticise?

Perhaps you are right, from that perpective. But many Singaporeans are also living abroad, and they too enjoy the privileges accorded to them by their host countries. 

In our case, we have to look at the long term situation. Can we afford NOT to welcome foreigners? Our birth rate is below even replacement level. People like me are adding to the burden faced by our ageing society. ........ although I&#039;ve done my part to have 3 children who are now contributing to the upkeep of the country.

If we need foreigners, don&#039;t we have to make them feel welcomed? They also have a choice to go elsewhere, by voting with their feet.

Yesterday at 7 pm on TV 7 Malaysian channel was a programme called Edisi Siasat in Mandarin. It is an investigative programme on the topic of PATI ( Pendatang Asing Tanpa Izin ) meaning foreigners who came without permit - in other words Illegal immigrants.

Perhaps you should watch that and realise just how fortunate we are concerning the way we handle foreign workers.</description>

		<description>While I do sympathise with those facing great difficulties in today&#039;s high infaltion life, I can&#039;t help feeling that they are still fortunate to be here in Singapore.

Street vagabonds are a rare sight ( though still present). No one dies of hunger. When there is an appeal for donations, cash or in kind, we get mountains of used clothings and large amount of cash from well-meaning people.

Clothes, still in good conditions, are thrown away for reasons known only to the owners. 

Of course Singapore is not a paradise, and I believe never meant to be one, simply because the term `paradise&#039; used here is arbitrary. The fact that we have thousands foreign workers who came in legally as well as illegally, shows something positive about Singapore.

The presence of the poor, in a way, can be positive too. It provides opportunities for the government as well as generous people, and at the same time provides the push factor for our young people to do their best.

I have seen a lot of students in the end classes of the Normal stream who could not be bothered to do their best, or at least better. There are, in fact many intelligent ones who could outperform their schoolmates in Express stream. There are many incentives for them to excel ( financial or otherwise), but they are not motivated. They posed discipline problems in class. Most of them would be facing difficulties as adults. 

If the government were to provide the poor with everything to make their lives comfortable, would it not encourage more of such students? These are students who do not practise delayed gratification. Surprisingly too, many of them posses top of the line mobile phones! 

I feel the balanced approach by the government at present is the best option. If we do have a better idea, we can of course put up our suggestions to the government. We should remember that whatever help the government provides come from taxpayers.</description>

Personally, I would have preferred GST remain at 3%, the road tax reduced by 20%, 50% less ERP gantries, petrol tax reduced by 50%, oil prices at US$50 a barrel,  minister&#039;s pay reduce by 50%, and 30 more opposition MPs in the next GE. Even if all of the above happen, there will still be those asking for alms.

I agree with the video&#039;s content, in that the rising inflation over the past 2yrs or so have definitely made many people, including myself, live beyond our means. Take the malay resident for instance, what can $30 do for a family? I sympathise with the lady&#039;s plight and at the same time criticise the government&#039;s selfish mentality.</description>

There will always be the `poor&#039; in any country. Poverty is a relative term. In Singapore the poor can enjoy air-conditioning, enough food, a roof over the head etc....etc.  By that criteria, they would be considered `rich&#039; in another country!

I&#039;ve seen children as young as 5 yrs of age, travelling alone by train to go to the cities to shine shoes, so they can have enough to eat. 

USA, the Super-superpower has vagabonds living on the streets and sleeping on cardboard boxes.  

One thing for sure, you can never eliminate poverty totally, because there will always be people who would be poor by `choice&#039; or otherwise.  By choice, I mean, those who chose to drink, gamble or take drugs excessively ( or such lifestyle ) that eventually led them to self-destruction. Of course there are many other causes too, like fate.  ; - )</description>

The feature on the Malay lady shows clearly the washing machine and a twin door fridge in her kitchen...........not to mention her nice house, which I would be proud of too.

I am sincerely grateful and thankful to AJ for the news broadcast that I might never see in Singapore (diff networks lah) and for showing singaporeans some things that they may not be aware of , due to some reasons ;)

The only question in my mind right now is,
WILL ANYONE SUE AJ ?
They used to report on many news about the Al Qaeda last time wan you know?

I would think it fits all the genre you described. A comedy because it will be a something which will be laughable. Crime because of how the lower segment of the citizenry gets treated versus all the growth we have experienced. And finally a fiction, because it will potray Singapore with its own version of what happened.</description>
