While he is suffering an indescribable personal tragedy, he is derisively called "slipper man" whenever there is a story about the ongoing investigation of the killing of his younger brother. Invariably each story also mentions that he is an opposition party member. This gratuitous repetition of his political affiliation and his indelicate wearing of slippers while filing his nomination for an election many years ago is unkind, unfeeling and ingratiating to the PAP leadership (I think some of them, fair and decent, cringe at such such obsequious tack).
