Reply To burmasupporter

Singapore do not need just foreigners but useful foreign professionals, and you Burnese certainly cannot be considered under useful foreign professionals if you are only here to satisfy your own political agenda.

If you think you are so brave, go back to your own country and fight it out, just like many of your respected and noble compatriots had done so and lay their precious life for their beliefs and cause.

Do not use Singapore as your base, you are not welcome here, you have no rights to carry out your activities here and Singapore is NOT YOUR country.

You can be treated like respected members of our society if you chose to respect the law of Singapore, or you can be treated as carbage, shit and rubbish if you think you are above the law just because you think you are a foreigner!

By the way, we need foreigners, but we do not need Burmese like you. Singapore will definitely be able to survive without Burmese idiots like you!!!

Come on now, lets not turn this into some foreigners versus Singaporean spat. The issue here is the transparency and integrity of our SG govt.

It is fair to ask or appeal for reasons about their application rejection.

Let's have some respect for each other.

Myo Myint Maung,

Please spare us your self-righteous portrait of "brave burmese patriots fighting the junta and PAP regimes".

If this were Burma, your asses would be in a prison up some mountain. Will there be an explaination given to you?

Our government is bureaucratic, autocratic, technocratic...etc.... but there must be something that attracted your 100k strong community here. Oh yes, jobs, education,.... opportunities taken away from singaporeans.

Please use your freedoms to go eslewhere. I will fight for my own thank you very much.

"Sometimes, it is very hard to be both law-abiding and at the same time morally right in Singapore."
nicely said, myo myint maung. :)

FT issues aside, i think ICA should give a reason for their actions. I think there's an admin law case here.

To TPM and the like,

I'm sorry if my fellow Burmese patriots and I have ever upset you and your government by failing to be law-abiding even at the expense of our conscience. Sometimes, it is very hard to be both law-abiding and at the same time morally right in Singapore.

DISCLAIMER

My fellow Burmese patriots and I DO NOT ask from Singapore government:
- the right to stay but the rationale for non-renewal of our passes/permits;
- favors but fairness; and
- mercy but magnanimity.

I feel some sympathy for these burmese as they seem caught between countries that dont want them.

But end of the day i feel we owe them nothing.

Im sorry but I think alot of those that support their cause are being hypocrits.

One moment we decry the government's liberal FT policy of giving out sponsorships to foreigners and letting them enjoy life in singapore without doing NS, and the next moment we are saying give them all the privileges of citizenship.

[[ The other four permanent residents (China nationals) will be allowed to stay in Singapore on the condition of good conduct. ]]

That's the point Enough was trying to make. PRCs get fined but are allowed to stay but the Burmese who were given warnings are booted out once their passes/permits expire.

sarek_home, you'd be surprised how silly the call centre folks can be at times. Once my bro-in-law was checking on something over the phone with one telco on my behalf and the staff just gave out my personal details without verifying if the person they were talking to was me. And my bro-in-law was not even trying to impersonate me or anything like that.

And although the information is available elsewhere, why should TOC have to take the blame if a prankster chose to claim he got the info here first. Although the onus is on the persons who released their press statement, my purpose was to limit any possible blame on TOC, hope that clarifies my position.

Here is an example of Falungong members caught by Singapore law:

27 April 2001
Case of Falungong Practitioners Arrested on 31 Dec 2000, Press Release from SIR, 27 Apr 01
Thirteen foreigners and two Singaporeans were arrested on 31 December 2000 at MacRitchie Park for holding an illegal assembly. The 15 adults charged comprised 9 males and 6 females aged between 21 and 40. Only 2 are Singapore citizens. Of the 13 foreigners, 5 are permanent residents and the others hold various Passes/Permits

2 Seven - Li Ying, Hu Jian, Ang Chee Pheng, Xiong Changlei, Gao Hao, Wu Guorui and Xiong Shouyong - were sentenced to a jail sentence of one month for obstructing public servants from carrying out their duty, with the Courts taking into consideration their participation in an illegal assembly. The rest - Chen Hong Mei, Ng Chye Huay, Kang Cui Wei, Ma Xiao, Zhen Hanfei, Zhang Zhao Pei, Xu Dong and Dong Yuexing - were fined $ 1,000 each on the charge of participating in an assembly without a permit with the obstruction charge taken into consideration.

This is no different from what Governments in other countries would do.

5 The other four permanent residents will be allowed to stay in Singapore on the condition of good conduct. They are:a) Mr Gao Haob)Mr Hu Jianc)Ms Chen Hongmei d)Mr Dong Yuexing If they breach the condition of good conduct, they will have their permanent resident status revoked and will subsequently be asked to leave Singapore.

The two Student's Pass holders are:a)Mr Xiong Changleib)Mr Xiong Shouyong

8 For Mr Wu Guo Rui whose Student's Pass had earlier expired and was staying in Singapore on SVP for the purpose of the court case, his SVP will not be renewed.

Well I feel for them, but in a way they deserved it. If ure a foreigner, better observe the damn rules. Its quite blatant how anal our gov can be with such outdoor protests.

Dont need to make a mountain out of a molehill, its only a handful, its a good enough lesson to the rest besides the burmese.

Unfortunately, it looks like they have become victims of a bunch of bureaucratic idiots who knows only how to follow the law. It looks as if the authorities are practicing a policy of appeasement to the generals in Myanmar. And as we all know, appeasement will only encourage the bullies to become bigger bullies. I feel very sorry for the victims. I also feel very sorry for Singapore...
