AIMs seeks feedback on New Media
In Events & Announcements, Main Stories • 543 views • 6 Comments
The Institute of Policy Studies and the Law Faculty of the National University of Singapore will be organising the above forum to gather feedback from members of the public on the recently published consultation paper by the Advisory Council on the Impact of New Media on Society (AIMS).
The advisory council was appointed last year by the Government to study the far-reaching social, ethical, legal and regulatory implications of a rapidly growing new media sector. Last month, it unveiled its consultation paper, entitled “ENGAGING NEW MEDIA – Challenging Old Assumptions”. The paper contains recommendations on how and whether Government should engage with citizens, regulate the Internet and protect minors from harmful online content.
The paper is available for download at the website of AIMS (see http://www.aims.org.sg/library/docs/Executive%20Summary.pdf for the executive summary and http://www.aims.org.sg/library/docs/AIMS%20consultation%20paper%20-%20Engaging%20New%20Media.pdf for the full paper). AIMS will refine its paper in the light of public feedback before submitting it to the Government.
To register for the forum, please complete the attached Registration Form and email it to Ms Raihidaya Wapa at daya@aims.org.sg or call 6837-9842.

We all should go for this forum and bombard AIMs with questions. Bloggers should speak out and not wait until govt make rules and laws and then kpkb.
I think AIMs doing good job la but can be more daring. AIMs next time should recommend govt open up mainstream media also. I think that’s more important.

1 question :
Is AIMS non-partisan ?
I would say I think so. ( :) )

So, after the what appears to be an exercise of asking for feedback and then presenting a report on for the new media, this report can then be said as one that has encompassed all views liao is it?

Due to very limited space in the mainstream media and many citizens who are not able to express their views, opinions, suggestions and feedback in writing and in good English, a lot of people opt to go online instead of sending their letters to the media. As, it is less restriction, less formal – in term of your contents of expression must not need to be presented in good English, as far as its meaning can be understood by online readers.
In view of this trend or circumstance, I think, the AIMs is recognizing the great impact of the vast volume of views, feedback, opinions from the man in the street are actually come from many online sites.

It’s very heartening to see things finally taking off.
I believe its worth mentioning, some of us media socialist have worked on this. See this.

Then there also appears to be very encouraging signals coming from others. They too may begin parachuting diplomats into the real world to also offer their expertize and know how. See here at ending part.

So it seems AIMS may be doing a great job after all.
