The civil service has a HR policy, which states that degree-holder civil servants may join political parties, but they may not hold office in any political party. However, I notice that there are a lot of civil servants who are serving in exco positions in PAP branches. An example is in Taman Jurong where the branch secretary is a teacher called Rencheng. This is clearly a conflict of interest, especially since a teacher is a civil servant. Best of all, the ex-Minister for MOE is the MP there. So ironic. So is the party so desperate that they will go against the govt's HR policy and appoint civil servants? Why? Are the top minds only in the civil service? Double standards?

Even with the relax of rules, I will still expect those opposition parties application to be rejected?
Why?
Because they are more likely to cause more threat to the public than those organised by PAP?
It ridiculous, as where is the fairness in this?
No 1 can deny the political reasons behind this.

Its even more disappointing to people like me are neutral to all.
I just hope more fairness can be practiced by PAP.

There were heavy weight ministers, and PM there, nobody dares to throw stone, as for WP members, they are treated like 2nd class citizens, and look like pariah, no wonder people might throw stones or throw rotten eggs at them. This is called world class govt. A govt using scare tactics, to intimidate voters. A greed govt paying million dollars to the ministers, who won't take responsibility if something goes wrong !!

Hey!

Can we people be reasonable with the Head of State, the Supreme Commander of the People. He is a fully protected person and the security measures cover his whole entourage are very comprehensive. So who dare to stop them and pick a debate with any of them? What about the many people who do not even like to be near these V VIPs simply because there are no good feeling for them?

Who are the People who get close with our top leaders? Adulators, bootlickers, balls carriers who are prearranged to pose for the Medias and ignorant/innocent fame seekers for the opportunities to have their pictures in the Presses and Telecasts.

And what hypocrisy is there? It is the Duty of the Supreme Leader to relate to his subjects and the Public should be proud that he is around instead of lofting in his ivory tower. Of course, it will be wonderful if he goes around without too much pomp and fierce looking security men around him lah.

Please tell, in which country is the Supreme Leader disallowed for any activity.

"Thus the WP event is risky and the ban is justified, just like how the PAP, with its world-class security measures in place, is totally justified in being able to hold their event."

And also why their MPs can be within the Election boundaries. I still chuckle when ever I remember the spin stories PAP had to come up with as to why these MPs were within the out of bounds area. I don't know what it means to be 'inside, but actually outside'.

Guess that's why the government need more scholars - to come up with spin stories and conspiracy theories aka 'they are jealous of us', 'the world is against S'pore' and 'Spore bashing', etc.

*shakes head in disbelief*

The difference is that the PAP ministers and MPs have hired goons who will pin down, restrain and throw into the slammer (without needing a trial to waste resources) anyone who tries to breathe a little too heavily close to our million-dollar talents, nevermind any who “may stop you, may want to debate with you and that may attract a crowd, therefore will result in problems” while the Workers Party has no such luxury.

I would love to hear the esteemed Professor give an answer to this. Why because I am sure it is going to be amusing. Perhaps this is not a u-turn but a "rethink" and the event was organised by the PA/Grassroots and not PAP.
