I think this whole reason for the fare hikes is symptomatic of a lot of other issues, for example, the lack of government investment in the public transport system in Singapore.

The govt invests in public transport through Temasek and some other GLCs. This investment (allocation is a more appropriate term) is aimed at maintaining the monopoly at the expense of the users.
Temasek and the GLCs are assured of high returns and therefore, high remunerations for the management as well. No surprises that PAP faces are common in the management line-up of these companies. It is intended to be that way.
The irony that Singaporeans suffer is that the large majority can’t be bothered when the obvious needs to be corrected.
Do we only wait till election to address issues, fellow Singaporeans?
