[...] In 2008, another group of NTU students took to Speakers’ Corner to protest media censorship in their school. The students were upset because of NTU’s decision to censor the campus media coverage of opposition politician Dr Chee Soon Juan’s visit to the university. (See reports by TOC here and here.)
Aiyah, we uncles don't know what the students talking about lah.

Really want to talk, talk about our rising costs like the rise 21% electrical bill, ERPs,
CPF retirement ages, FTs/FWs preference over Singaporeans, crimes and litterings by FTs and FWs, education priority , etc. We true blue Singaporeans interested in only these especially those low and middle income Singaporeans are now suffering.

Talk about other things we DON"T understand.

With the Internet, media censorship is really a non issue. This blog is a perfect example to that.

Why is everyone judging when you have not even seen the article that is supposed to be published? What if it is written in such a biased tone (just like what many here are biased to these few students)? For me, it's on the fences until I read the article...

I especially like what the speaker said about
being non-partisan and reporting all relevant news and that includes opposition news which I am sick to say the MSM can be many rooms more to improve.

I wonder will there be any change when there is a change in leadership in all the newspeople? To sound safe, what I meant was when they resign on their own accord to pursue their self-actualisation goals and dreams like to fly the kite in perth and have a good relaxing time away from work. maybe = maybe not.

Thank you TOC for posting the video coverage (albeit it is just section of the actual speech made and interviews).

I was particularly impressed by how calm & composed these students are when presenting and they seemed to know very much what they are protesting for. The interviewees are in general very receptive and understoodf what they came to support.

It is also encouraging to hear these young students' candid and matured responses to the interviewer when asked whether they thought by organizing such event will change the mindset and decision of the University's Authorities to re-published the censored article. Yes, indeed it may not have immediate effect for change, however it is a small step forward that is worth taking to champion the fundamental principles of believing what's right thing to do.

Keep up the good work. Please continue to post update of the outcome so that we older folks who supported your moves can continue to do so in any form that is deemed fitting without getting you kids in trouble.

Is petition a strong statement? Even one of the organisers is unsure that the petition will produce any concrete result. The Nanyang Chronicle should move from student-led to student-owned. Deny NTU the right to censor by owning the newspaper instead.
