If I had a hammer I'd hammer in the morning
I'd hammer in the evening all over this land
I'd hammer out danger I'd hammer out a warning
I'd hammer out love between my brothers and my sisters ah ah all over this land
If I had a bell I'd ring it in the morning I'd ring it in the evening all over this land
I'd ring out danger I'd ring out a warning
I'd ring out love between my brothers and my sisters ah ah all over this land yeah
If I had a song I'd sing it in the morning I'd sing it in the evening all over this land
I'd sing out danger I'd sing out a warning
I'd sing out love between my brothers and my sisters ah ah all over this land
Well I've got a hammer and I've got a bell
And I've got a song to sing all over this land
It's a hammer of justice it's a bell of freedom
It's a gonna be about love between my brothers and my sisters ah ah all over this land
Well I've got a hammer and I've got a bell...

I am sad - like many of you.
WHERE were we when JBJ was standing at street corners ? Were we too busy with the Robinson's sale? Were we scared of the BIG Brother? Why cry now ! Let us be honest - we never supported JBJ. And let us not live in denial. It is OK to be scared.

6) state funeral on October 3rd, 2008 2.30 pm

You are right.

why wait for someone to do it for us?

1 person may make a bit of difference.
1000 people can make a significant difference.
10000 people can make a world of difference.

Wear Black.
The late JBJ has done a great service to this nation full of mainly people who are extremely pragmatic due to the environment they are brought up and the information they receive.

The late JBJ is indeed ahead of his time as he is probably the only one who dares to do what he did. I am not sure how shall democracy progress from here on. There is no one to take his place.

I pitty the new generation.

regards

The PAP govt cannot 'make' a state funeral.

ONLY the people of Singapore can create a state funeral for our hero!

My Condolences to the Jeyaretnam's family

You could have make it big, you could have been very rich

But you have gave it all up, to what is your belief.
You could have given in, you could have given up, to all the troubles and the fights
But for the love of your country, it a thought you have never haboured nor take flight.
It is sad indeed, you couldn't live to see this day, but rest assured it will be here one day.
You may have been gone and free
But your spirit and your name will alway be in our history.

Lin Yu (May you be well and happy wherever you are)

Hi,

I was about to comment about that on my blog too, but I did a little bit more digging and realized ST had indeed printed one such letter on Oct 1. It was a nice letter, calling on Singaporeans to recognize JBJ for his qualities and his contributions to the nation whether we liked him or not. Personally, I did not like his style of politics but I certainly had nothing against him as an individual. In fact, one must respect his courage for hanging on in spite of all the things thrown at him by the ruling party.

I don't really know what to make of this. It just felt wierd the Oct 3 ST Forum had 6 letters on JBJ in the online edition and 0 in print. But it certainly did not look like ST's avoiding any mention of him in print, which would have been very poor journalism at best.

Best Regards,
Chee Wai
