I guess many tragedies around the world conjure up images of death, starvation, displacements from homes, mass exodus..etc. We can't influence much in political change but in humanitarian aid we must take heed.
I am saddened by this happenings..

Again in war..I is always the innocent end up losing..

What happening in Sri Lanka is a genocide of minority community, the outside world dont get to know much of whats happening there due to the media blackout and Sri Lankan govt propaganda.

Both India and USA (under Pres Bush) have blood in their hands, providing advanced military aid and training to the Sri Lankan army.

Singapore has a responsibility as an international member of the civilised world. Singapore along with the ASEAN Governments should apply preassure on the Government of Sri Lanka to immediately stop this brutal war against their own people and sight the example of Singapore's proven tract record of success based on meritocracy, multi-racial, multi-ethnic and multi-lingual harmony; which had overtaken Sri Lanka despite having suffered a set back of three and a half years of Japanese occupation as opposed to Sri Lanka being the HQ of Mountbatten's Southeast Asia command. The Internation Community jointly can impress upon the Majority Sinhalese public how much they had lost by this war. As a member of the UN; Singapore and its ASEAN partners should apply preassure on the UN to immediately intervene and stop the war. Much more could be done, the politicians should know better. Alternatively, we Singaporeans should turn out in large numbers at the Speakers' Corner to impress upon our Government that we as citizens of Singapore are concerned.

The Tamils Tigers should restrain themselves, they are minority in Sri Lanka, Sinhalese are majority, it is not fair just like Malaysia, the Chinese are minority, there is a quota system for education and employment, as a results, the Chinese suffer, just like the Catholics suffer under protestant rule in N. Ireland. That is why the IRA emerged. Both parties should come to a dialouge to resolve the ethnic conflict. What is UN doing I wonder ??

Kudos to these 2 elderly females ,
many do not even would voice up for the plight of others.
I think these ladies come from a land where they have been through life threatening situations and tough times.
Lucky singaporeans, you live in air-con.
