SINGAPORE: The three Singaporeans who have been found guilty of contempt of court in the kangaroo T-shirt case have been sentenced to jail.

Two of them, 19-year-old Muhammad Shafi’ie Syahmi Sariman and 33-year-old Isrizal Mohamed Isa, received seven days’ jail term each, while 47-year-old John Tan Liang Joo was slapped with a 15-day jail term.

This is so sad and sick.

Wonder why we are still holding third world country’s human rights’ values in a first world country.

Did the judge explain why is there a difference in their jail terms given?

Because the two dudes with the lighter sentence wore giordano t-shirts but John Tan wore Zara T-shirt. More expensive.

Though it surprises no one, it’s a crying shame!

They are tightening the vice and, as always, doing their best to scare the people with their bully tactics.

Many years ago, Mr J B Jeyaratnam (God bless his soul) was fixed and paid dearly for using the word “beholden” to describe some.

Same hatchet job?

Same shit, different time?

SIngaporean who has an inherent sense of justice and fair play should listen or read the trial transcripts of the case that caused AWJ and the the kangaroo T-shirt wearers to pay for their show and tell.

From there, you can decide for yourself what kind of a court this is?
Human?
Kangaroo,
Monkey or
Snake?

This further re-inforces the truism that if any perceived injustice is to be fought, unlawful or extra-legal measures should not to be used. They will only compromise your cause.

I now know that the government and the courts do not like marsupials. For example, if you wear a koala tee shirt, you will also get the courts cracking down on you, and sending you down under for a seven-day stay in the hallowed halls of our pentitentiary, Changi Prison.

“23) Oscar Choy on November 28th, 2008 12.41 pm Thanks heaven! the 3 toads were booted to jail.”

And the Kangaroo t-shirt is still hanging in the air.

You can whack the people but you just cannot whack what people think – nicely explained by post 19) by smallvoice585. What you can visibly see are 3 ‘toads’. – only 3.

Singapore’s Pledge

We, the citizens of Singapore
Pledge ourselves as one united people
Regardless of race, language or religion
To build a DEMOCRATIC society
Based on JUSTICE and EQUALITY
So as to ACHIEVE happiness, prosperity & progress FOR OUR NATION
===========================================================

How true in our heart is this Singapore’s pledge to each and everyone here in this forum?

I believe if S Rajaratnam is still alive today, he will bow his head in shame.

Where are the DEMOCRATIC… JUSTICE… EQUALITY… ACHIEVE >>>FOR OUR NATION that S Rajaratnam had written in this pledge in 1966 to be found in today 2008?

Must as well, just cancelled out the last 3 sentences of our Singapore’s Pledge from today onward to only –

New Singapore’s Pledge (2008)

We, the citizens of Singapore
Pledge ourselves as one united people
Regardless of race, language or religion
But, to survive or thrive, we are on your own
So, may our gods help us all

Take out S Rajaratnam as the author of the pledge as well and rewrite the new pledge history as written in 2008 author PAP!

@20) smallvice585

Law is written by man, and it is possible for it to be re-written or bent to further compromise your cause or work against others. There are many other historical examples better than this.

Why Austrialia +1? Because more people are moving there to further appreciate marsupials. :)

It is all thanks to the 66%. You choose them with your eyes open. You support them to be more and more arrogant, high handed, suppresive, authoritarian.

I wonder under which statute of our Singapore law that says it will be an offence to wear a T-shirt with a picture of a kangaroo on it.

Can the judge please enlighten us ? Or is the judge just following the orders of LKY & PM son ?

How come I never heard of such a offence punishable under our Singapore law ?

Curious to know what will they do if 1000s turn up with Kangaroo T-shirts at the court ?
Take everyone to court and all these 1000s get jail terms and lose jobs ?
Will this make media headlines everywhere?
Will these kangaroo T-shirts become the latest hot fashion item?
Wouldn’t the meek & silent be stronger in numbers?

If a reason has to be complicated and explained in detail, then it lacks common sense. We all know what that implies, you know?

Is wearing a T shirt with a kangaroo a crime in S’pore? Is being a S’porean a crime? Is sleeping a crime? Is going to work a crime? Is being male a crime? Is eating a crime? Is being sad, happy or angry a crime? Is my name a crime? Is living in S’pore a crime? Is saying what you don’t like a crime? Or saying something nice a crime? Is it a crime to be a human in S’pore? that deserves the death sentence? I wouldn’t be surprised that one day it will be punishable by death for jay-walking; after all this is Singapore.

zj is anguish n sad as a Singaporean!!!
Nov 30, 2008 22:45

boo SG….I felt embrassed being a Sgporean aft reading the kangaroo news. Is this a form a ‘liberalization’ PM Lee mention in his national day speech? How is society gg to progress?

Dec 1, 2008 13:01

cozy, I’ve thought of the pledge too! & of course realize the glaring things mentioned in the pledge that aren’t present in this society. There ain’t no justice; expressing one’s opinions isn’t a crime. There ain’t no democracy; there’s communism or depotism. There sure as hell ain’t no equality! Rich gets richer, everyone else gets poorer, simple theory. Gov’s moving way ahead of us instead of growing & being in touch with us, what in monkey’s hell is that all about?

James

Hi Tan,

You left out the most important question of all.
Is it a crime being a Singaporean?
