Even though most would feel that the fares can be adjusted more fairly , I believe most would never even have started a petition. Their reason could be :

1. The efforts will be futile. So, why try? Being calculative people, lets not do anything since the result will be discouraging.

2. Lets wait for someone to take the lead.

3. Lets accept all fees and fares.

4. Is it political?

5. Its not right to Question even when in doubt. Go to any public seminar to see what i mean.

This to me is a Social issue. Not a political issue.

No matter what is the outcome, the petition would have succeeded in highlighting that there are students and members of the public who feel that the fares need adjustment.

The success of such petition also depends a lot on how many would sign and not just the campaigners alone.

I was approached by him during his petition campaign (which I assume will be on-going for some time) while walking along Bugis Junction bus stop. I gladly signed. I am amazed but glad to see that Singaporean youths are not all Apathetic.

I do not use the public transport much but can still emphatise with the students because I too, was once one. I know how it feels to be full-time student – all the assignment deadlines and overloading homework and revision and tutorials and long time spent daily travelling to campus and back and most of all most students have no income.

Their parents have to slog in office competing with foreigners and locals to keep their ricebowls. The cost of living has never been so high especially 1st world status was declared. In general , except CEOs, are local workers earning the same 1st world salary as in other real 1st worlds? For instance, is a plumber with the same skills or certification earning the same nett salary as the same in other 1st worlds? Is a consultant here earning the same as there, everything else being equal?

How is progress measured? How should it be measured? And how to cope with the HIKES like 21.5% electricity hike in a time when oil price has dropped significantly?
