This 2 day shootout in Mumbai is extremely tragic, yet it is even more tragic that one of our fellow singaporeans, Ms Lo, has been killed while being held hostage. I offer my sincere condolences to Ms Lo’s family and may Ms Lo rest in peace.
I hope that world leaders will soon understand that minor conflicts among countries can be put aside and they must all collaborate together to combat terrorism and prevent more innocent lives from being taken away.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Aiyo, we cannot blame PAP la. Not that i’m pro-PAP or anything but the straits times clearly states that because the Mumbai government was not persuaded by the Singapore government to withdraw troops, she was killed. Makes me wonder why they don’t choose an ang moh to do it. Wouldn’t AMERICA have a bigger cloud over India? (if you understand the expression).
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Despite fortified efforts by national securities around the world, terrorism has continued in relentless disregard, to organize and systemize itself in the midst of this financial tsunami; methodically meting out what seems to me to be a pre-meditated, calculated attack.

The terrorists obviously struck with military precision and alacrity; at a time when Governments worldwide are inundated with financial problems and launching unprecedented resource shifts to prevent grinding halts to their economic markets.

Necessitating a thorough review of ourselves; this horrific and tragic account has shored up the dark reality that (irrational) ideology and money (the lack of) have become natural bedfellows.

Terrorism aside, which has complexities of its own, Hoei Yen’s death throws up issues of currency and are chilling. Times like these are beginning to show cracks and opportunities for the proliferation of vice. Crime, delinquency and corruption; given imminent joblessness, unemployment, redundancies in economies all across the world – from developed to emerging – will escalate.
Parallel to the increase in street crimes will be sophisticated felonies, arising from the tearing down of moral vanguards (arising from the psychological attack of depressions and despair) of those who are educated and learned. (And remember, these erudite numbers are far more today than the numbers during the last Asian Financial Crisis.) Nothing will tell what extreme measures of the knowledgeable and intellectual will be. The power of the mind cannot be underestimated.

Unless proper ideology, with its commensurate set of values are drilled and inculcated today, there may not be a tomorrow. I dread to think. Ideology is the war we must fight now. Only ideologies for the highest good will ensure that there will be no wavering, even and especially in bad times; so that our sanities and lives may be preserved.

Let us encourage and look towards leaders of thought to guide nations into the next lap.So that, against a multi-cultural/lingual/religious scaffold, Singapore will survive these trying times whilst maintaining a safe, secured and low-crime environment for its citizens.

With this, I hope and pray, that the rest of the Singaporeans in Mumbai will return home safely.

Finally, maybe you have lost touch with the ground too long. It is not uncommon for Singaporean to follow a funeral to get 4D number. "

that's really disgusting and i read about it in the chinese newspapers. i guess to each his own, if they are comfortable doing that and wouldn't mind others doing it if the same thing happens to them, go ahead.

Life is precious, however hard it may seems. There is always a way out! Time will wash away wound but not the pain (being a person lost his only bros, I share this insight with you).

However, if you ask me about this Singapore lady that fall victim to this terrorist business. I am sad for "her" family and not the "in law" side. Having a baby girl myself, I believe it is painful for them! To the "in law" side, please shut up and give some peace to the actual family that really lost their fresh and blood!

A loving husband will consider his in law parent and not cry in front of the national TV. You are a bloody man and so act like one to comfort your in law, not adding pain to them an make this incident like a act of your own!

"BTW, this is TOC. There isn’t any moderation, because it believe everyone entitled to their own opinion. While I am not really interested in yours. Please don’t tell people to keep quiet. You can just bloody ignore mine and mind yours, if you don’t like it!"

firstly, you need better English. before you starting screaming.

secondly, i said it WOULDN'T HURT to keep silent. seems like it hurts for you, but i didn't ask you to keep quiet. which part of my sentence tells you to keep quiet?

"if you don't like it"

finally, you said it. just like i am entitled to my opinion, you are entitled to yours. why should you mind MINE, and yet tell me i should mind my own and not yours. isn't your freedom equivalent to mine? I didn't suppress your freedom, just giving my opinion. you are fully entitled to yours. so why the double standards?

i rest my case. go ahead and make your day better by screaming everywhere that ST is going overboard, she doesn't deserve it and all since it hurts you so bad. in fact, you could write to the ST and tell them that.

I agree with Zorro comment.
I guess her death received a lot of attention from the media and politician because she happen to be an elite(highly educated, high earner).
If that person happen to be a non elite, such as hawker , cleaner, or just a normal clerk etc, I doubt our ministers and president will bother to visit the deceased family.

As I have mentioned in few of my previous post on this issue. If there is anything Singaporean should learned from this incident. Don't assume that we are safely out of this terrorist businness and fed by our Government the wrong sense of security!

We had seen Mas Salemat case, security do slack in Singapore! I foresee this would not be the last and it might even be brought closer to our door step. Do you really think those soldiers in pair walking down orchard is enough to ensure our safety? Have you ever consider if they are skilled or experience enough to live fire in the public?! If they are forced to do so? Foreigner don't know our soldiers well like we Singaporean do. There are so many questions to ask:

1. Is these soldiers holding to machine gun experience in hostage situation?

2. How many bullets they have in their machine gun? 5? Like guard duty during the National service day?

Don't forget one very important thing, in the event of hostage situation, your safety is not really the first piority as our Government had said many time that they will not negoiate with the terriorist! Yes, please don't remind me of the Special Operation Force in Singapore. As far as my concern, their act back in the 80's of killing some so called terrorists is a joke! Because most of these terrorist hold on to weapon like table knife. I still remember fleshly that Singapore government make a big news out of it.

The point is, I am sad to break this to you! We are very much alone in this fight against the terrorist especially when we go overseas. I strongly suggest that if you go to foreign country and they have some safety procedure on what to do during terrorist situation. Read it! Don't try to be a hero!

Also, there are few thing I am concern over this incident. When Singapore government find out that one Singaporean is being held hostage in India, what did they do:

1. Did they offer our special force to go over there? (why not? We are alway very proactive when come to sending our army of civil defense to help other)

2. Did any of our coward minister sent official over there to have the first hand situation over there? Since one of the hostage is our people, thus, not unreasonable for India to share the information how they going to proceed with the counter strike!

Please Singaporean, wait up the bloody idea! Continue to be fed with all these shut by the PAP and failed to ask the right questions bring us nowhere to the future!

I know everyone has their comments and perceptions. But the fragility of life is shown and portrayed by the betrayal of life in this teror attack. My condolences go out to her family. I'm really impressed with her bravery. But it is time to move on. As she said , celebrate life. My prayers lie with her and her family.

Dear Hwei Yen
Hope you don't mind the freakish attention heaped on you these past few days. I am sure you must be wondering who are all these creepy people whom you had no interest in, and now behaving like they were separated from you at birth. Don't worry bout Michael. He orgainsed a really good farewell party for you. There was even champagne. Someone claimed that you'd like to have a stylo function so everyone dressed in designer black. So cool, like Hollywood Oscar night. All things considered, I know you'd rather be alive than dead for this tribute. But unfortunately, there are too many people feeding off your demise. Guess what ? you are the Angel of Singapore ! I am sure you are now laughing at the stupidity of it all. Enjoy it while you can. Or at least until all the lonely people of this country finds another dead chick to fawn upon.

Till we meet again, God Bless.

Finally, maybe you have lost touch with the ground too long. It is not uncommon for Singaporean to follow a funeral to get 4D number.

Insensitive? maybe! But who is there to make them sufficient? Our Government? No, they open up more Singapore Pool betting stations to make the people poorer.

Come on, Mr. self-righteous! Which part of RIP you don’t understand? You know how it feels to have someone growing up with you taken away from your life?!

Having the experience of my only young brother passed away in 1997, it would be norm for a family to keep the grief within themselves so as to slowly accept the fact of reality and move on.

So tell me, what good does it make to broadcast in front of the national TV reading to the nation the letter of his wife; and having on daily basis when you step out of your house, people after people kept reminding you that you have lost your wife? Since you have effectively made yourself a public figure?

Like most of the above commentator had mentioned, who is this lady? What’s her contribution to the country? Why need such extensive broadcast?

Quote, #15) bismarker on December 5th, 2008 12.47 am
- So terrorism only becomes real when it strikes a Singaporean?

Promising young girl? Well, can agree on that. Loving couples (you know their private life?), who are we to say? I am even more shocked that the deceased family is so willing to give our national SHITTY TIMES their private photos for publishing!

OVERBOARD is a understatement! I still stand firm that this event had been dramatized and most importantly with consent from obviously the man’s family (maybe because his father is from the Grass Root).

It make more senses for a decent husband to let his wife Rest In Peace, rather than playing along with the Media Corpse parading the whole tragedy over and over again.

BTW, this is TOC. There isn't any moderation, because it believe everyone entitled to their own opinion. While I am not really interested in yours. Please don't tell people to keep quiet. You can just bloody ignore mine and mind yours, if you don't like it!

Maybe I was not depressed enough to tell the world I am very depress! How heartless of me! Don’t know why majority of the Singaporean so Ki Siao? Maybe want to go there take 4D!"

this is a insensitive remark that is uncalled for, honestly. if you think that its overboard, seriously it won't hurt to keep quiet and keep such insensitive views to yourself. unless you feel its hurts as much as losing a loved one.
