In light of the Budget announced Thursday, where a big focus was on helping companies cope with costs, public transport operators SBS Transit and SMRT have now said they will not apply for any fare adjustment this year.

    gemami,
you don’t know mah ? Those clowns always do forward contract just like the oil thingy thing. They bring the future into the presence. So in the future, they imagine that they already hike the transport fare, and then they go back into the presence and by not hiking the fare, they think they did bring down the fare. How genius of them to manipulate with the future and presence.

For instance, they presume the transport hike already take place in the future according to plan. So the transport hike for MRT might be 20% more.

However, in the presence, thing change and economic bad, and people are fedup with those clowns, and so asking for hike is asking for trouble. But those clowns still stick to the plan and yet not going for price hike, thus the transport hike is reduced by 20%. Now, did you get to see the WORLD-CLASS LOGIC of our ‘DEAR’ government ? On the other hand, it make them seems noble as long as you go according to the their logic.

It seems that some established mechanism have been set is place that public transport companies must increase fares each and every year, irregardless of fuel prices, increased ridership, and other revenues.
They are claiming now to be doing the public a favour by not applying for fare increase.

It become a custom and culture for them, just like increase GST and inflation after every election. They think it is a right not a privilege to them, or rather it is both a right and privilege to them since they think they are immortal anyway.

Haha, tripping over their own euphemisms. If fare adjustment were adjustments going both ways they’d still apply, and make everyone pleased by groundbreakingly lowering fares.

Goodness, Oil prices down, nation in recession. They have the cheek
to talk about a further unjustified fare adjustment .
Now am I supposed to feel a sense of gratitude to them?

Well, they don’t have to predict the future prices, just set their own desired price and push it down your throat. They have been doing that since Singapore independence and it works terrificly for them.

“Reducing corporate tax is really funny. If I do not recall wrongly, companies are facing massive problems trying to stay afloat, much less talk about profits. Cutting corporate tax is really ridiculous when there are no or little profits to be made. Cut it to 5% if you want. Companies aren’t going to turn in profits just because you cut the tax to zero. Weird move. However, for government linked companies that consistently turns in profits such as transport companies and power companies, isn’t this pretty good?”

This post is really meaningful, worth a read

No wonder the GLC transport company doesn’t have to hike fare since the tax reduction and other incentives make up for it .. See, the government never lost.

Organization are made up of people who make decisions and ask little people to execute them, there is no point cursing organization because by itself it is dead, it is those people that give the green light that need to be cursed.Because they think that no one knows who making decision anyway that they can just go ahead with whatever they want.

So we lesser mortals must fall on our knees and be eternally grateful to the public transport for not applying for any price increases this year!
Note PTC `said it will work speedily with the transport operators on how much fares can be cut by’.
How odd! Surely PTC can do its own calculations on how much to lower the fares to help the population cope with the worst recession ever? Why do you need to ask transport operators how much fares can be cut by?
When raising fares why doesn’t PTC also work speediliy with commuters on how much they feel that fares should be raised by?
Most likely the transport operators will say half a cent drop will do very nicely.

this is funny. asking transport operators asking how much fares can be cut like an oxymoron. like government taking up the initiative to be innovative.

Kudos? There was a public transport fare hike only a few months ago when crude oil was at its peak of US$140/bbl. The public transport companies have already raised the fares, so there is no need to. Moreover, the wholesale price of crude oil and diesel is most likely to hover around US$60-65/bbl until 2010.

This is mere politicking to assure Singaporeans and make PAP appear benevolent.

Remember.. Under the revised transport fare structure, you pay more per unit distance for shorter trips and pay less per unit distance for longer trips. There isn’t a pressing need for transport companies to raise fares at all.

  20. PTC must seek TPT Co. approval to look into how much to lower the fares.

I always thought PTC is the one that carry the big stick not the other way around

So funny just like IDA requests telco to shorten the contract and telco told IDA to pissed off. Why? cos Singtel also part of the extended family of companies, like everything else URA, HBD, Town Councils, and so on damn long list

Likewise, SP also just a go between….Wah Lau we kenna screwed wholesale all the way up our CPF that belongs to us and cannot enjoy our in our old age, only our next of kin can collect.
