American economists are already floating test balloons (viz, nationalize their banks).

After Davos, the next global economic meet is in Apr 2009 by the Group of 20. Between now and Apr, if whatever global coordinated measures still can't unclog the credit gridlock, then nationalization may well be the last straw for Western govts to grasp!

Perhaps GE is imminent because it has to be b4 the nationalization spectre looms. How will the Lee family account to Singaporeans - from GIC's MM to Temasek's daughter-in-law to then Min of Finance's son??? Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Citibank, Barclays, UBS - it's gonna get ugly IF nationalization were to eventuate! Our billions will become zero! Not merely diluted shareholdings and then waiting out the bad times for share price to recover to giddy heights once more!

As things stand, when ex-Merrill John Thain expedited bonus payment to Merrill people a couple of days before official sale to Bank of America, I wonder if Temasek (as the substantial shareholder at that time) tried to stop Thain from such "irresponsible and shameful" behaviour as President Obama calls it! Maybe Temasek didn't know lol!

In Single Member Constituency (SMC):
One man = One vote = One MP to represent you.

In Group Representation Constituency (GRC):
One man = One vote = Five/Six MPs to represent you.

GRC vote worth 4-5 times more than SMC vote!
Not all Singapore votes are EQUAL, eh?

Hi Indeed & Tired Singaporean,

I am not sure what we have become; I just feel that we are like robots in some factory fixing up things for someone so that someone could continue his life in the Ivory Tower. WE have no feelings towards our own kind anymore cos we are really too busy making money so nobody will come knocking at our doors at 3am!! Life is just too stressful here for everyone as we are all loaded with loans here & debts there!! Man, I think even the Kopi-Kia is feeling the heat & stressed up cos his job could be easily be replaced by some FTs!! What's the 2 years of NS for when the Firm isnt gonna protect us from these foreign invasions! We just couldn’t live on S$1500 a month even though we take bus everyday & eat from the hawker ctr & only wear clothes from the wet markets!

I love Singapore very much cos we are ineed an unique bunch especially when speaking Singlish to other Singaporeans & now, I need to speak Manadarin when I wanna order Lor Mee no Tao Gay (bean Sprout) It's always a heart warming experience to talk to someone that understands MAKAN, ALREADY THEN HOW? along Champs Elysse or in Milan or even Kowloon. Nobody speaks like us & I am really proud of this unique culture we have developed over the years. Alas, some clever dick wanna change all that by forcng us to speak the Queen's English, I really think he's probably too free to worry about this instead of other more important issues like helping the poor, oh I forget, he has already helped; he raised the GST, didn’t he?

There are only 2 options ........ One, sell everything you have, ..... or Two, get united together,................. and kick those useless papees out of govt for good.
...................................................................

I think your actions are too drastic and dangerous. This will result in the freak GE results that the MM had used to frighten Singaporeans. He would rise up from the dead if overnight CSJ becomes the PM with LKT & CST as cabinet ministers that may also include bicycle thieves (PAP used to describe an opposition party candidate in the past) and slipper-wearing politicians (term used by the media).

Opposition parties here should pressurise the PAP to at least revert the GRC to the original 3 members and the election committee must be independent from the govt. You would jump up with joy if the opposition can get 28 seats in the next GE. (33% of 84 seats)

One, sell everything you have, get organised, pack up and migrate out of the country for good, or Two, get united together, get orghanised, strengthen your ground and kick those useless papees out of govt for good.
the min sum of some 120K requirement is as good as telling you people, keep working and pay me till you die OK, tell me how many singaporeans can still have such amount of money in their cpf (after a big potion would be used up to pay for their HDB flats by time they reach 55 or 65 years old, tell me anyone here? Hate to say that again, the ruling party has successfully robbed us all of our entire cpf life saving which are supposed to give back all when we reached 55 years, as was originally been promised. Now, not only they break that promise, they even want to swallow up all your $$$ and leave you people to die a natural dealth. Why? becos they know you people are trapped and cannot do anything to defend yourself anymore, so they can now help themselves with those $billions to themselves and those who can be make use of to keep in power for a long long time to come.

is it so simple as work till you drop or past 65?
I think you have ALSO got to have enough in CPF for min sum before you can withdraw bit by bit after you officially retire.
dioboh?

noone else to blame except ourself.

Dont cry on my parade & Germini

I was born in the 60s & both my parents were ‘wannabe-hippies’; although they were quite Westernised & took things easy, they have always taught me the importance of loving my country & fighting for its freedom. They told me the nightmares they have been thru living under the Japanese & I should never allow that to happen to my children. Of course, that stayed with me for a long time & even though I was pretty young that time, I would show my love for my country with other Singaporeans whenever we attended the Malaysia Cup at Kallang. Well, no doubt, it was a game of football but everybody showed their love for 90 minutes & beyond. No matter if you are Ali, Ah Seng, DeSilva, Muthu or Anderson, it united us behind the boys on the field & we cheered for a common cause. And we didnt need any MPs to dance Ah-GoGo!!

As we got richer with the latest 50” Plasma TV & B&O sound system, our lives seem to have lesser meaning except making money!! We have gotten more afraid to stand up for a cause we believed in & how to blame us when we are all loaded with housing loans, car loans, phone bills, SCV, credit card bills, school fees & almost 101 other debts we have to settle every 30th of the month!! We just have to work like a mule till we die & better don’t fall sick cos most of us are unable to afford the medical fees. We don’t contact our friends or relatives cos ALL of us are hard at work; so what really happened to our lives? WE have ALL become a money generating machine for the Establishment; we are forced to work hard, breed hard, train for IPPT, speak good english (what's wrong with Singlish anyway?) forever upgrading & re-training to be a waiter or bartender, forever paying taxes & ERPs. So when can we really retire or just sit down & have a nice coffee over a smoke with our old friends without being fine or branded as ingrates or complain kings!!

I really think we work too hard cos of the system & have no time to smell the flowers.

To Balji,

If I may, I would like to invite you to spend a few minutes and watch this video : http://theonlinecitizen.com/2009/02/should-singapore-adjust-its-economic-model/

After watching this video, I begin to suspect that this crisis may really be the mother of all crisis in modern times and could take several years to recover.

If this is the case, it would definitely be wiser to have election sooner than later given that a Renewed mandate can be benefitial when executing new policies like .....

Goodday Singapore Talents 10% we have at least.

If this is the case, it would definitely be wiser to have election sooner than later given that a Renewed mandate can be benefitial when executing new policies like …..

#96, The PAP esp Old Man River himself, has always lived and won by the tactic of using all kinds of bogeymen..in the early history, it was the British evacuation, then the Communists, then after Merger and M'sia, UMNO and the racialist extremists, then "mad irrational Opposition parties" whom he "will not allow to knock down what he has spent all his life building up!" So scare tactics is their forte! Times like these are perfect for a snap election using this modus operandi and the electorate is just cheesecake for an old hand like LKY. It'll just be jell-O. PAP will want to bet on it while he is still alive and kicking, notwithstanding 2 bypasses and a pacemaker. If they postpone the snap election, I also tend to think that they risk losing him,and once the ground turn sweeter, the fear factor will erode and they may even suffer a reversal instead of a landslide victory.

#93, I think we shld see thru their machinations (as the late Dr Lee Siew Choh said) and vote against them so hard that even if they still win (which no doubt they will), they will win with scarily slimmer margins such that more Opposition will not lose their deposits but instead get into Parliament as NMPs. We have to enlarge the dissenting voices in parliament.

The PAP is a bunch of cowards led by the kia su LKY. I challenge them to break up their GRCs into single wards and see if they dare to match the anger of the people at the ballot boxes!!! I wont be surprised much of the cabinet will be gone.

People got problem trying to make ends meet already, there is no mood to have an election.

With all this bad news day after day, I'm worried about erection rather than election!

Even there are many unhappiness on the ground,
I suspect no one would form credible alternative party to challenge in the coming election. When there is no competition ....

#90, “If you think that paying multi-million dollars to our Ministers is corruption brought into the public sector please take the lead and fight against it.”

Will you stand with me and vote against the PAP when the time comes?
.............................................................

Votes for opposition parties candidates are so diffused in the past many GEs that they don't constitute more than 50% in order to win a GRC or SMC (except for Potong Pasir & Hougang). This is the reason why the PAP has been able to remain as the DOMINANT party during the past 50 years.

Oppostition votes range from 25% to 45% in contested wards lost to the PAP. Although they constitute about 33% of total votes, opposition parties won only 2 seats. This is grossly disproportionate to the votes obtained by opposition parties.

As voters we need one strategy to overcome this problem. Take the Aljunied GRC during the 2006 GRC for example. The WP lost partly because Serangoon Garden was switched and included in Aljunied GRC while Braddell Heights was considered not safe and was moved to Marine Parade GRC under GCT. WP could have won if those who believe in democracy could agree to switch their votes: 'I live in Marine Parade and GCT will sure win or walk over I will vote for PAP, you live in ALjunied GRC, you vote for WP on my behalf.' This is a win-win vote for democracy to counter the PAP's unfair election tactics.

Well, what is yr stand? Do you feel the same way, or you are just taunting?

Will you stand with me and vote against the PAP when the time comes? Until we all feel we're together in spirit and want to act in the same way, we cannot beat the might of the PAP who will use the state apparatus to defeat us.

PAP's election strategy is quite obvious:
1. Prior to Budget 2009's announcement, deny bad economic outlook.
2. After Budget 2009's announcement, announce economic outlook is bad.
3. PAP knows damn well that no voters will buy pro-business policies for General Election.
4. Hard-sells that PAP's Budget 2009 includes effort to soften the impact for families and businesses equitably.
4. Direct benefits to household and subsidy are withheld, to be used as carrots for GE 2009's electioneering.
