It would be presumptuous on my part to go forward and start to give explanations when explanations were not called for.
President SR Nathan, when asked if he could have held the press conference before the start of the Budget debate (Straits Times, 18 Feb)

So Mr Nathan assume that explanation isn’t needed based on trust? here it goes again…he assume that we don’t want an explanation yet we do.
I think Nathan was referring to “when explanations were not called for” … by the government. In particular, he was NOT thinking of the People wanting the explanations.
Apparently, Nathan has not read his job description (as in the Constitution), http://statutes.agc.gov.sg/act_body_const.html, which stated clearly that he must offer his rationale for the release of the reserve in the Gazette. The Constitution also defines the many critical roles that the president takes on. Nathan, have you discharged your true duties as president at all? Unlike his honourable predecessor, the late Mr Ong Teng Cheong, Nathan is a big disappointment.
By affirming that he is NOT an Executive President, Nathan attempts to limit his responsibilities as the ELECTED (some say selected) President. Indeed, his so-called presidency has been distinguished by “It would be presumptuous on my part to go forward” … on anything!!
I will definitely vote for Nathan as the next president for a 3rd term. Why cos he is so capable. Did I say when I will vote for him: In the next life.
This is the first time we saw Nathan at his best, read from a prepared text by who we all know none other than the government.
Lets all stand up for oue most esteemed President.
