Malaysian opposition politician and Selangor executive councillor Elizabeth Wong today offered to quit her state cabinet post and state assembly seat following her nude photographs controversy.
Wong, who first appeared calm, could not hold back her tears when announcing her decision at a press conference at the PKR headquarters in Tropicana.

This lady is not a high calibre or a Blue Chip quality. Prior to being elected, she was a Parti Keadilian Rakyat street warrior (this did not carry her far and she fell)

High calibre or not high calibre doesn’t really matter initially as long as one has the heart and passion to serve the people. They are still building their foundation. They have to start somewhere and don’t have the luxury of getting the best person to run the show. What they have to inspire the people to join the party in the “long term”
I pity her , and she deserve to be commend as at least she has the gut to face the world and quit in honour, and she is just been betrayed by someone she loved, and Malaysia gov will bring the criminal to justice ,
Compare to our clowns who are so much into self-promotion and dishonour, who don’t own up mistakes. Even betray the nation’s trust, and we can’t even bring them to justice.
Speaking of High calibre ? So isn’t our gov high calibre, so what’s now ?

Hi Daniel-Good to hear from you. I doubt the Malaysia govt will bring the criminal to justice as I understand he is already left the country (heard from the streets, he was paid huge sums of money, similar amount paid to the Perak state assembly woman Rm 25million. The ruling BN-UMNO has billions and these are peanuts
Our government to an extend is high calibre but there are a few who are not and we have seen many came and gone especially those MPs and many do not live up to the expectations of our Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and hence he is still holding a very tight grip in the government but for how long as he is 84 and his former opponent the late JBJ has rest in peace forever.
Singapore must always have the La Creme-High Calibre ie Ministers and Civil Service (which is one of the best in the world now).

Hi Daniel-I trust that you understand what I meant by a low calibre (she was already a Yang Berhormat Assemblyman and induldged in such things, yes it can be argued this is her private life).Low Calibre again, her lover is a young Malay man.
In Singapore, we can a former MP resigned after he took photos with his maid and correct me if I am wrong, his wife lodged the police report.
As Yang Berhormats in Malaysia and Singapore, they must have very high standards and not low calibre which inturn breeds immoral actions

Should read “we saw” and not “we can”. My apology.

I really do not see how the lady’s private sex life has anything to do with her ability to participate in the legislative process or govern.
It was the same with NCMP Steve Chia’s “scandal”. I do not see how his personal sex life or his personal turn-ons (as far as we know, he did not have sex with his maid) affects his performance as an NCMP.

I happen to like and agree with Alex Au’s take on the episode involving Steve Chia.

The same extends to Elizabeth Wong’s case. If I were her, I would stay and do my best as a legislator until I am voted out of office the next election (if the electorate chooses to ignore any contributions she makes to the community and focus instead on her “immorality”). I can understand from an emotional perspective why she resigned, but a great opportunity was missed to demonstrate that any connection between personal “morality” and competence in leadership are usually grounded on frivolous perceptions rather than fact. Pity.
Obviously she has a deal with the conspirator if she don’t resign, then more of sex video will be exposed. Nowadays it is very easy to buy a hidden camera in the form of a pen or anything minute and put on a table and when you have sex with a girl, everything will be recorded. So she resigned due to the threat to expose more intimate pictures.

Hi Lee Chee Wai-Noted your points. A Yang Berhormat in Malaysia or in Singapore, is a Public Property and must carry herself very well and must always subject to public scrutiny (same for former Health Minister of Malaysia Chua Soi Lek whom I personally know him and former Taiwan Miss Chu Mei Fan, both resigned but Chua made a political comeback in the recent MCA election and this shows the MCA members were able to accept him), and his or her house must always in order and hence setting a good example for his or her voters. Our society is also getting immoral, sad and we cannot have such Yang Berhormats with such fucked up private life while in office.
