Dear everyone,

You might have experienced difficulties in accessing The Online Citizen the past one week. Each time you visited TOC or refreshed your browser, the same page appears – displaying the article from Feb 14, “Would Khaw Boon Wan send his mother to a foreign land?”

The problem is due to a technical glitch which, we suspect, occurred when we upgraded our template.

We are working to resolve the problem. In the meantime, perhaps you could use Google Chrome browser, which does not seem to have this problem. You can download the Google Chrome browser here.

We apologise for this inconvenience and we would be very grateful if fellow bloggers could help us disseminate this announcement by posting this on your blogs for the benefit of those who may not be able to see this.  Thank you very much indeed.

Regards,

Andrew Loh

  1. Hello! I have been using Google Chrome for a while and I have also encountered the same problem accessing your site.

Was only able to access this post through a RSS feed link.

On my old PC which runs FireFox 2, I can access TOC normally.

On this new PC which runs FireFox3, I have encountered the same problem as reported by Andrew.

Hope this problem will be rectified soon!

  7. TOC die-hard 21 February 2009

While I empathise with TOC and specifically on this problem, its not very very good that this kind of event occur which obviously no one welcomed it and expected it.
But what I want to emphasis is that I portend it could give TOC a negative image, and I fear most, is ‘loosing’ the large number of ‘new viewers/supporters’ to TOC. Why is because I have frequently attempt to attract visits to TOC via my own emailing network and because of this technical problem may in a way shooed them off.
Please try not to let this kind of events occuring again.

I concur. These ‘hiccups’ successfully break momentum.

I am almost sure that these kinds of thingies will happen again, and definitely within this year if not over the next few months if not quarters.

    reason? i cannot say. ;)

  9. click comments to get to the latest page.

Please solve problem as fast as possible. If i am your customer, you will lose my business soon.

  12. Clear eyed 23 February 2009

Thanks Andrew. Glad I’m now able to access the latest TOC for my daily fix:)). I’ve tried to email TOC to my friends but have never succeeded, even before this latest problem of inaccessibility. When I click on the link “Email this to a friend” I inevitably get the message “Error 404″.

  13. I also realize that some of the articles on RSS are kinda hard to locate on the website if I didn’t actually click that story to navigate here.

The Email to Friend is working now.

  15. Deleted Article on KBW? 24 February 2009

    Dear TOC Editor/s,

What has happened to the article “Would Khaw Boon Wan send his mother …”
You guys deleted it just like that?

  16. theonlinecitizen 24 February 2009

    #15,

It had to be taken out as it was the cause of the recent technical glitch on TOC. Many readers could not access the site and the articles. We spent one week trying to identify the cause and finally found that there probably was a bug when we put up that article.

Since we took it off, the problem has resolved.

Our apologies for the inconvenience but for the site to carry on, we had no choice, really.

    #15,

By the way, the article and the comments are not deleted. They have been saved under the “unpublished” folder at the moment.
