‘Health care is universally considered a right of citizens, placed beyond the need for economic justification.’ – Dr. M.K. Rajakumar, 1980.

I agree with what has been said above. Affordable healthcare should be a priority to the present government, a right for every Singaporean citizen. But this does not seems to be the case now. KBW is letting us shoulder heavier burden by trying means and ways not to subsidize our health care and only care about squeezing the very last drop of S$ from us. Fancy charging us s$ for using our medisave; which is rightfully ours to start with.

Even thinking about shifting the government's healthcare burden away by suggesting that the old be sent to JB. Witnessing all this, I have lost whatever respect I previously have of them.

Economic justification has became a top priority for the govt and our self worth is now being measured by our economic output to the nation. We can never get another minister who can think like Mr. Rajakumar if the same party continues to rule.

Hard times now and it will get worse.

Which Sing minister will take a S$1 per month salary.

I am poor but I have worked for free and why not our Sing ministers.

They should lead by example just as I have been doing - and even now.

‘Health care is universally considered a right of citizens, placed beyond the need for economic justification.’ – Dr. M.K. Rajakumar, 1980.

Dr M.K. Rajakumar should be our Health Minister. Instead, we have a former Malaysian who took up the role of Health Minister and recently instructed the old and sick to retire in poorer countries that have cheaper and inadequate healthcare.

Typo error... the article starts off with "Nearly half a decade ago...", should be century (100 years) not decade (10 years).

"Enticing ministers with a salary pegged to opportunity cost in the private sector may attract those with market value – the smart ones. Yet can idealism or charity be equally judged with market value? Likewise, has being repressive driven away the liberal-minded, passionate individuals who would have been the Dr. Rajakumars of Singapore?"

"Eschewing fame, he preferred keeping a low profile, declining high office in the party though he was widely respected by the Left and the masses. Most significantly, he never sought crass fortune though medicine was a lucrative trade. Throughout his life, he maintained a small clinic to serve the poor, even giving treatment for free when the patient could not afford the fees."

sad, we've allowed the prosperity gospel to corrupt the souls of men. i doubt we have leaders who will not be tempted by even an MP's salary in the opposition camp.
