Excerpt from Today (9 March 2009):

At the time of the mishap, a picnic mat had been hung to air over the gap in the railing. Siti had been playing nearby. “I think she was crawling behind it, and then suddenly we saw the mat move and then we realised she had fallen,” said Mr Muhammad Azman, 24, a family friend.

Mr Muhammad and Siti’s uncle Muhammad Syukri had been sitting nearby at the landing, playing the guitar. “She knows not to play there,” said Mr Muhammad Syukri, 20, currently unemployed. “We always warn her not to run around too close.”

It was he who reportedly called the town council three months ago about the broken railing. He claimed he was told someone would be sent to check on it. “I didn’t hear from them, I don’t know if they came or not.”

——

Her family said the gap was reported in December to the Bukit Merah Town Council. But the latter last night said it could find no record of the call.

  1. Give U all some facts.
Sam Tan’s Division – Voting for Neighbourhood Renewal Program and Life Upgrading Program.- Telok Blangah Way Precinct
Duration: Feb 27, 2009 (Fri) to Mar 10, 2009 (Tue).
Most TC staff helping the voter to vote, and handle feedback on the spot, but most of the time they never note down the requests and the particulars of complainants, so where’s the reponse feedback later on? What they concerned during this period are the votes. And of course, free popcorn, free drinks and free shows during the 3-hr presence of MP.

  2. BTW, there’s no Bukit Merah Town Council, only Tanjong Pagar Town Council.

To convey the feedback across, email to the officer, cc or bcc to MP and chairman of TC, general manager of TC. And then call the officer by phone. The whole process needed 5W1H to get things done.

Moving forward, I think that next time we should video down the defect, and the process of alerting the authorities and post it in youtube as evidence. So that even they delete the messages, they can’t deny the call had been made.

We have really, really spoiled the RC, TC, grassroots, ministers by voting them during the polls.
