On International Women’s Day (this Sunday), The Substation’s Singapore Indie Doc Festival is presenting a special screening of an award-winning Italian film, “Vogliamo Anche Le Rose” (We Want Roses Too), a documentary on the changes wrought by the feminist movement in Italy in the 1960s and 70s.
Half the proceeds of ticket sales will be donated to the Star Shelter, a Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations initiative, which provides temporary refuge for victims of family violence.

“Vogliamo Anche Le Rose” (We Want Roses Too) is an award-winning film that portrays the revolutionary changes brought on by the sexual revolution and the feminist movement in Italy during the 1960s and 1970s. It is an amazing technicolor spectacle that documents the shared feelings of the feminist movement: that women could no longer support a society based on the patriarchal family, on the power of “husbands” and on the supremacy of males, which requires women to be efficient mothers, obedient wives and virtuous daughters. It is a celebration of advancement and progress in the area of women’s rights and the feminist movement.
Alina Marazzi, born in 1964, lives and works in Milano, Italy. A documentary film director she has worked as assistant director for feature films and video art projects. Her critically acclaimed “Un’ora sola ti vorrei” won best Italian documentary at the 2002 Torino Film Festival, and received special mentions by the jury at the 2002 Locarno Film Festival and at the international It’s All True Festival in São Paulo in 2003.

About the Star Shelter: The SCWO’s Star Shelter was set up in 1999 to provide temporary refuge for victims of family violence regardless of race, language, creed or religion. It also provides information to victims of family violence on where to seek help and protection, and give referrals to other service agencies should shelter-users require their services.

Sexual harassment in a wider sense can includes harassment from female to female. Why & How?
A female with knowledge that a male she is seeing has a partner (girlfriend/wife) yet knowingly intrude into the relationship with sexual offers or the act inclusive, shall be considered as a form of sexual harassment to the female victim.
To harass is to disturb or interfere with someone’s comfort and peace of mind. And to cause anxiety, apprehension, & worry to person who is innocent and did no harm to the harassment-giver. Causing the victim to suffer emotionally and to face threats.
