Secret anti-terror memos
In Quotes • 195 views • 4 Comments
Too often over the past decade, the fight against terrorism has been viewed as a zero-sum battle with our civil liberties. Not only is that school of thought misguided, I fear that in actuality it does more harm than good.

It will be zero sum:
- if the quality of living of the people does not increase
- if we’re still subject to the same crutch mentality
- if our men are still forced to be slaves
- if foreign investors are still able to take advantage of certain silly people
- if our [cpf] wealth is still at the control of the system (Does it not seem like communism?)
- if law an order is still just all fluff to keep political competition at bay
- if theres still no basis of democracy at the end of the day
- if we are still not competitive compared to other countries
As of now, yes its still zero-sum, or negative, looking that we seem to be moving backwards to the pre-2000 era.

But alas, now we also see the trueself.
We in fact, have “Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves”, too.

This same rationale can be applied to question whether Singapore’s curbing of personal freedoms does help to ensure a vibrant and stable environment for economic growth and inter-racial harmony ? The PAP always maintained that it maintained tough laws for the greater good of public safety, law and order and attracting foreign investors and MNCs.
Is this rationale really good or bad ? Does it does more harm than good ? Is the PAP’s school of thought misguided ? Is the fight to a strong competitive economy and a harmonious society really a zero sum game ??? These are questions that I want to ask all of you for feedback – questions that go way back since Singapore’s turbulent independence . I start the ball rolling … now
