Communist China does tolerate protests. As long as the protests are within the OB markers, they will be tolerated. Tibet and Taiwan are 2 most well-known Chinese OB markers. The Chinese Authority didn’t clamp down on the parents’ protest over the Melamine Milk incident. The Chinese Authority didn’t clamp down protestors at the Japanese Embassy when the Japanese PM visited the Yasukuni War Memorial Shrine.
