To maintain the No10 most Expensive Country in ranking, surely the high pay will have to stay unless .........we become cheap and life worth living!
So in a Recession, everyone is going on a Budget with the boom of Budget Airlines, Budget Hotels and Budget Destinations, so you see...... Singapura will have to eat humble pie and lower the artificially high standards that the whole world is facing!

Well i agreed with jobless fellow that no one owes us a living and we got to help ourselves. Tho we cant change the external events but we can change ourselves.

Right now it is the best time to be self-employed. Just spend some time to develop a biz plan and find suitable people to venture into it. For those who want a proven model, just look for someone who has been there, done that and model after their doing =)

Let's move out our comfort zone during this uncertainty and i think this is the best time to do so! It's now or never...

"Singapore will experience a 2% rise in pay"

Well it should be this case: Entire Singapore will experience a drop in pay, BUT BUT BUT the govt will experience a rise in pay, this offsets to become an average 2% rise in pay for Singapore.

Correct?

citing economic conditions as reasons,
recently, when an job agent told me they could only offer 2.5k less than my previous salary.

Anyways, they never called after that. They just bluff me they have a job. collected my cv and never called for 1 month already.

Salary has gone down. At least for me. My future is getting bleaker and bleaker for me. Almost 6 months out of job liao.

what to do, no one owes me a living. not sure how to retire liao with min sum and high cost of living and extremely flexible labor supply.

The Australian
April 2, 2009

(Note: this article is from an Australian newspaper)

WITH the world's leaders convening in London to solve some of the biggest problems in several generations, now is a good time to compare what they are paid.

The Times (UK) has done just that, compiling this list of politicians' pay, measured for comparison's sake in US dollars.

Once you get past highest paid, Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore, who is on S$3.76 million (US$2.47 million), the packages level out in the US$200,000 to US$400,000 range.

All fair and equitable, you might think. But how big are the countries run by these people? Does it figure that Barack Obama earns US$400,000 for being President of the United States and Kevin Rudd takes home US$229,000 for being top dog in Canberra?

We crunched the figures further. If you divide the salary by head of population, the ladder of remuneration is significantly reshuffled, and our own Prime Minister leaps from 10th to fourth while Obama slides from third to 10th.

1. Lee Hsien Loong - Singapore Salary: US$2.47 million Per head of population: 54c

2. Brian Cowen - Ireland Salary: US$341,000 Per head of population: 9c

3. Donald Tsang Yum-Kuen - Hong Kong Salary: US$516,000 Per head of population: 7c

4. Kevin Rudd - Australia Salary: US$229,000 Per head of population: 1c

5. Stephen Harper - Canada Salary: US$246,000 Per head of population: 0.7c

6. Nicolas Sarkozy - France Salary: US$318,000 Per head of population: 0.5c

7. Gordon Brown - UK Salary: US$279,000 Per head of population: 0.5c

8. Angela Merkel - Germany Salary: US$303,000 Per head of population: 0.4c

9. Taro Aso - Japan Salary: US$243,000 Per head of population: 0.2c

10. Barack Obama - United States Salary: US$400,000 Per head of population: 0.1c

Lowest paid workers in private sector highest paid leader in public sector. All hit the world record. Time to ponder what went wrong with this country. Oh, don't worry they even suggest that organs can be traded, the poor lost even more.
Time to rethink your vote in the coming election.

"Also, we may have overdone the call to cut wages, have shorter work weeks, compulsory leave, retrain at lower wages, etc, to save jobs"

I do not think private companies follow the call to cut wages, have shorter work weeks to follow the call of the National Wage Council or rest of the herd. In the real world, there are real business needs to fulfil. If the company is doing well and capacity is full, they will not cut work weeks or even pay which will directly affect the workers productivity and revenue.

If you believe in official figures, Singaporean's productivity is now negative for some years. If the productivity is negative, our pay and pay rise cannot be sustained. Wake up call?
