From Channelnewsasia:
SINGAPORE: There has been another case of mass food poisoning, also in the Geylang area.
The Health Ministry said it was notified on Saturday of 12 cases – all of whom ate at a steamboat restaurant BaShu RenJia at 233 Lorong 9, Geylang Road on Friday evening.
All were treated as outpatients. One patient who was supposed to be hospitalised went home to recuperate.

Watched the Report on the 10pm News on Channel 8 and before the News Cast ended, it seemed that there was a real time live cast of the Said Steamboat Restaurant. The Newscaster reported that there were customers in there, it appeared that despite the Incident of food poisoning earlier, the Restaurant was operating as usual.

Strange Tape (#4),
Local news agency are required to have MICA vetted their news story before it can be published in Singapore.
I hope there be no more food poisoning in GL.
But then, I am not so confident anymore despite the news saying things have been cleaned up.
#7 smallvice_585,
You mean the great UK Telegraph no such standard meh?
I would assume they have being such a world class news provider.
Maybe its the speed of work?
The authorities , obviously not doing enough , no troubles all claim to be 1st world std. When problems arise blamed ppl ungracious etc.
Pls follow advice , anticipate problems and plan and check work towards prevention.
You like it or not, GRC MPs, Mayor, Ministry of Health NEA all are responsible.
You bring in FT , u teach them to be gracious
Already, singaporean trying to teach these FT to follow the laws now have to teach them to be gracious, Next have teach them to be 1st world FT /workers We give up
What do you expect? just like the economic downturn, people don’t care, all they want is money.
I can tell you, that in America- it is ‘every one for himself, and god for all’.
It’s a slaughter going on in America. I do not see the light at the end of the tunnel here in America.

Sorry, forgot to add great post! Can’t wait to see your next post!
To ALL who cares, concern and love Singapore – wake up, and if all these stupid problems, dead from eating rojak, burnt to death in Hougang, Mas Selamat walking to freedom, doctor committing suicide, student stabbed professor made out to be aggressor, etc etc doesnt arouse your conscience – then sadly Singapore wont be better off . . .
For your childrens sake, their future and your future – do what is right and do justice for all these innocents.
I have worked in restaurants in NZ, Singapore, England and Sweden and they are all dirty.
The filthiest was the one in NZ, run by two Italian Cockneys, who were so Londonised that their Cockney speech was just impeccable.
I cleaned it up and they got mad at me. Why? A Chinese joker trying to be a white smart Alec.
In actual fact I was thinking of the student clientele they were mainly serving and I did not want them to die from the toxic bacteria found in the filth.
The cleanest is the one in Sweden as the Swedes were obsessed with cleanliness and fint or good work.
Food can become toxic for many reasons.
One of them is that the food handler did not wash his hands with soap and water after going to the toilet.
Based on my observation most of the cooks and other food handlers have the so what, cannot care less attitude and I am not eating the dish eh! If they die, die, not me anyway!
I practice what I preach. I washed my hands so thoroughly that I practically bleached them and they look like the complexion of Snow White.
To You mean Telegraph no need vetting? (#9),
In Singapore, the CNA Editor has to vet the article, follow by MICA, who may pass the article to NEA for consultation first. In UK, the Telegraph Editor does the final vettting. There is no need to consult any government. There is no free press in Singapore as long as MICA must ascertain every news story produced by a Singaporean news agency.

Why UK does not need such a thingy but here it needs? Is this process of vetting applicable for ALL and EVERY piece of news released to singaporeans?
Among other thingys, news is measured by timeliness as in how fast it is delivered to the masses. News should be fast and accurate. This story happens in singapore and I am just disappointed that a foreign press is able to release the same info FASTER than a local press. In this case, the Telegraph seems to have reported ACCURATELY and TIMELY. This is NEWS.
Anyways, I thank you for your useful info. Its eye-opening.
cheers

Strange Tape – nothing strange about those 2 news reports. The CNA report is about a new outlet, but also in Geylang. The “same restaurant” refers to the 12 victims eating at the same steamboat restaurant, not to the same stall as the Rojak hawker stall. The Telegraph report refers to the bigger case a week earlier at the Rojak stall.
Have we ever thought that two food poisoning cases in a matters of last than two weeks in the same Geylang area. It is a pure coincidence. No. It has to do with the area famously densely populated with foreigners and locals at this area. This overcrowding with people from different countries may have a bearing on these cases. Diseases and plague may happen in future in this kind of places even hygience is stringently followed. Increasing our population even further to reach 6.5 million may exerbate this social and medical problems.
Now who was it who said that the recent food poisoning incident was “totally unacceptable and outrageous“? See here.
These 12 cases came immediately one day after his promise of “getting to the bottom of this and hold those who are accountable and responsible for this“. He also commented that NEA “had stepped up enforcement action” there. Guess what? This second poisoning incident happened in the same Geylang precinct!
So what are you going to do, Mr Yaacob? The air is getting so hot with all the hot air these days.
First chikungunya, then TB. Wonder what other diseases we’ll import thru the FTs. Smallpox? Rabies?
Calling out to all those who got a PASSION for hygiene, step out and go apply to be NEA Officers. They really are in need of good quality persons.
