The eco-weenies are at it againg.

Rachel Carson's Silent Spring resulted in the deaths of millions of people to malaria since her booked panicked the world over DDT.

Malaria still ravages people in undeveloped nations who are pressured against using DDT. It is one of the great crimes of the century that one million people every year die of malaria in undeveloped nations.[

Paul Erlich's Paul Ehrlich's population bomb in 1968, predicted mass starvation before 2000.

While the environment is important, the green movement is run by extremist looking to limit growth around the world.

Humankind can actualy do little to control global climate change. The Earth is constantly changing and alwasy will change, with or without us.

The state of weather and climate predictions today is still unreliable enough for Science magazine to run an article, synopsized as "Of the dozens of forecasting techniques proffered by government, academic, and private-sector climatologists, all but two are virtually worthless, according to a new study. "

Based on the history of climate scares over the past century, there is no basis for assuming that claims about catastrophic climate change being made today are true.

Dear yw #3

"It needs to stop being just about carbon footprints, planting trees or recycling disposables; the complex social and economic dimensions that come with creating a healthy Earth are too hard to ignore any longer."

I am not clear as to what you mean by the needed 'dramatic shift' you mentioned. Also, aren't carbon footprints, planting trees and recycling part of the 'complex social and economic dimensions'?

What is this 'complex social and economic dimensions' exactly to you?

Thanks

Thank you very much Steph for this very nourishing piece.

The conception of being a 'greenie' needs a dramatic shift. There are much will and much noise, but there is a lack of a core framework within the 'greenie-curriculum'.

The other factor in the equation of Green Movement, is the political will. The availability of technologies is not the critical factor. Therefore, it is the political will to invest in the appropriate technologies for long term returns. Instead, politicians, especially in developing countries look at returns only during their time in office, which is usually only five years.

To that I would add, why should we tolerate ‘spin’ rather than action from well-resourced companies and governments? Why do we continue to innovate for profit rather than well-being?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly! A very good point.

Actually, all Innovation is for well-being. The problem is, the profiteers then still innovations for their own profit.

So the only thing that needs to be done is to convince the profiteers that they are better off sharing than gaining at the expense of others.

Good Luck!
