“Irrational fear” and “hatred” for Aware

In Quotes • 1,194 views • 33 Comments

I don’t understand what has sparked this irrational fear of us, the new exco members, and what hatred. If you’re a parent, you will understand how I feel. I feel so indignant. All I wanted to do is to serve the community and be a member of this Aware, to push for the cause of women. Do I deserve this? Death threat? What has Singapore become?

Josie Lau, Aware president

I think there’s a way to disagree without being disagreeable…death threats definitely cross the line.

Acceptable or not, blood has always been associated with politics and war throughout the history of Mankind. If you want to avoid blood, avoid all political engagement.

I still think the new exco has an agenda… What it is , they (exco) dont know, because the mentor probably has not shared with them the vision….

So I see the blind leading the blind….

I can’t imagine hearing that the President yaks out that she feels her family and other members of the exco are being threatened in the last 48 hours…. My sympathy to Josie, but look!!, for something to happen like this, the fire must have been stoked …I can’t imagine why someone would be so violent to give death threat to the spouse and family over supposedly this current saga… I can only suspect that there are lots more to it…..

But thinking about it, its like a drama off the movies….. The plot seems to be parts and pieces from the regional happening… (eg the infamous sodomy case, the yellow/red (and maybe blue) shirt sagas, bomb threats…

If Aware was being watched and monitored for over a year… Now, after a Sunday Talking Point session and a press conference last night, the vision of the new committee is still wishy washy…..Instead, the top person (the President) continues to grip and “wash dirty linen in public” , who said what and …

So let’s move on… I hear the membership has increased many folds in the last 14 days… So kudos to the unintented PR that has resulted…

So ladies of the exco, you have another chance at your next EGM next week.. I can only hope the new exco should what they are worth …. Seven days to prepare shouldnt be too short a notice unless you are given OT by your employer who is underwriting your paycheck.

Let’s continue with the watch …..

I would say that Josie Lau is a non-aware president – pun fully intended.

Josie, that’s right. You do not understand a thing.

Agree that death threats cross the line and this point cannot be over-emphasised if Singapore is to develop as a civil society.

The fact that Josie does not understand why people have “an irrational fear” of the new exco just shows her lack of self awareness. The new exco evaded the tough questions for more than 2 weeks and misrepresented themselves on national TV and she is asking why normal people have misunderstandings about them. Geezz……

Honestly, why don’t they question their own irrational fear of AWARE homosexual agenda before pointing their fingers at other people’s “irrational fear” of their “well-meaning” community agenda.

I also think she is a faked president when I watched the TV and the saga going on. I doubt her sincerity and moreover she did not obey instruction from DBS. That makes her a controvercial leader.

Yes, death threats cross the line but I think the reason why some people have an “irrational fear” and “hate” for the new AWARE exco is that they are the ones who started hating and fearing other people for who they are in the first place.

Exactly Josie, what has Singapore become? A stagnant and fetid cesspool where bigotry and intolerance find fertile ground to invade and proliferate?

As for the death threats, Thio Li Ann has used it before too during the 377A debate. Not surprising they have used it again. Paint the other side as fanatics and elicit sympathy at the same time. Keep the heat off them for a while of course.

You were not honest when you stated that you did not know the other exco members till being involved with AWARE.
You were not honest when you said you did not have an agenda.
You were supposed to protect women’s rights but you summarily terminated the center’s manager for disobeying orders. You disobeyed your employer’s orders. So, DBS should sack you.

I’m a parent, I understand how you feel. I feel so indignant too. All I wanted to do is to be left to live my life in a society that respects indivdual space. Instead a religious group mounts a covert campaign to take over a civic organization to push its own agenda and has the cheek to be coy about it. What has Singapore become? No integrity and not upright at all. Definitely not the values that I want my children to pick up.

PS: Any organization, religious or otherwise, has the freedom to to push for the cause that it believes in. Set up your own grouping. Underhanded takovers as we witnessed are not acceptable. It polarises our society and is a threat to secular harmony that Singapore rests upon. I do not want my children to grow up in a war-torn country where civic and religious organizations vie for control of civic and public institutions. What next? Start planting people in the Ministry of Education?

It is better to take over NKF style. Get the President in court for charges and then plant in another Gerard Ee type of character…. see no one really notice Ee….all focus will be on Durian! who work hard to setup NKF to be taken over by the Ee and the PAP organisations.

A police report was made I believe according to this link
http://www.todayonline.com/articles/315756.asp
and ST news.
Does it imply that all identities of bloggers will be identified, maybe questioned especially those who made inciting remarks on religion and other sensitive issues?…….so that the culprit who made the threat can be caught??? So I am advising those who are way out-of-line to exercise care in their comments as well.

If any PAP MP received even the slightest hint of a death threat, the police would investigate and arrest the perpetrator already. Will the same standards apply to Josie Lau, a private citizen? If not, why not?

Those of you who think it is ok to teach young people about lesbianism – would you send your children to such a school? Or do you think it is ok just because you’re either single, gay, or married with no kids? Why is the MOE not doing anything about it? or rather, why does the MOE condone it? Is MOE run by gays and lesbians? Does our country’s diminishing marriage rate, increasing divorce rate and falling birth rates something you are not concerned about? Isn’t promoting lesbianism contrary to our country’s policies?

Think about it. There is nothing religious in this. Just simple basic needs for this country to increase her population.

Also why do some people think it is ok for J L’s DBS superior to openly state what was stated? is this superior gay? or lesbian? Are they so worried that PINK BUNNY CLUB people will withdraw money from DBS? Is DBS so poor? or is the PINK BUNNY CLUB really so rich and powerful that DBS is afraid of them? Think about it.

In summary can someone lists down the reasons why the new team should not be given a chance to manage AWARE and the reasons for the EGM? What are the agenda items for the coming EGM? Are observers (gay male) allowed in the meeting?

Jolene

Socrates@20:

Here are the reasons why they should be booted out: http://www.glass-castle.org/blog/2009/04/tale-of-two-events-how-they-have.html

Male observers have been allowed at meetings in the past where they are associate members – Josie Lau’s own husband, for example. It should make no difference whether they are straight or gay.

If i were the HR of DBS, i would do the same. This is because under AWARE’s crown, she can do a lots of things : disguise under protecting and challenging for woman, herself included. She has proven that she is a very very difficult person to deal with, it would be more difficult if she established her power based. By then, it could be too late for the HR of DBS to even touch her.

Death threats from “a ‘masculine gay’ and a ‘jihadist sleeper’ who claimed to have joined a militant group” ???

Hard to take a threat from a pro-gay jihadist that seriously. Though I suppose the threat certainly would appeal to the new guard’s sense of matyrdom. They do seem to be getting their enemies confused unfortunately.

Lesbians and gays would not increase the birth rate. They increase HIVs. Admitting men as members for what? to provide companionship for gays? . Is this the old AWARE wanted. This is the compelling reason why the old AWARE should be booted out. and NOT what Jolene is picking on those nitty gritty on the new AWARE.
Whether the new survives the ECOGM the old MUST go.Let Jolene, the Spider Orchid, June and babe take the top spots and Maverick the adviser and mentor and the Enigmatic the gatekeeper and Zefry the moral vigilante. We have a new team free of the old and the new, the middle roaders.

I strongly diagree on violence and using death threats to resolve differences.

However, in my opinion, you are not clean yourself. Having the cheek to say that what our country has become when
1) You yourself broke the code of conduct your company expects from you.
2) You lied about not knowing your new exo members when this is a well planned coup.

Everyone is entited to his own views. If you really want to campaign on your beliefs, there are certainly other ways to do it.
1) Setting up your own organisation
2) Your “friends” could have bring this subject during aware meeting to discuss.

I do not agree the manner in which this plan was hatched to bring yourselves into power. Stop acting like saints.

I bet when our SM, Mr Goh CT annouced that the goverment will not discriminate gays, your hearts were so broken that you might have even consider planning to overthrow our governement during elections. Why only at Aware?

Very noble to share with our children….indeed.

Whoever made the death threat is stupid and unfocused.

Yes, they probably did it in the spur of the moment but to what benefit? By making these threats, you have given cause for the new exco to present themselves as victims when in fact they have been everything but.

There is no room in civil society for uncivil behaviour even with uncivil saboteurs like TSM and her Mentored.

Please don’t do anything thats going to hurt AWARE.

AWARE needs to be taken back from TSM and gang. No ifs and buts about it.

Singapore has become smarter to realise that non christians can go to heaven too. And that death threats have been faked too many times to be anything new and shocking. Perhaps you could say a gay raped your daughter and threatened to pose their videos on the internet? I might symphatise with you.

Religion has always been divisive, you have made it worse Josie and TSM.

Hey, why are there so many unhappy assumptions on the new Aware Exco. They are elected according to the AWARE constitutions. So just let the new AWARE exco to prove themselves.

Look at another scenario. If one fine day, The PAP loss to the Opposition during an election. Does that mean that the PAP will do the same like the Old AWARE guards?

Old AWARE guards, do not behave like sore losers. Be objective and follow the AWARE constitutions.

BTW, I am not a Christian.

Cheers!
