New exco wants to bring AWARE back to its “original cause”

Dr Thio Su Mien also revealed that she had emailed several groups with her concerns about the direction the association was taking, which prompted reporters to ask if the takeover was orchestrated.

“It depends on what you mean by organising. It is kind of flattering in a way. I’m frustrated, I talk to people, I collect info, I send to different people. You want to join, (then) join. I will help you. We discover that networking helps,” said Dr Thio, adviser to the new AWARE exco.

The new exco said none of them intend to step down, but revealed that taking up office has come with risks.

The team will go ahead with the extraordinary general meeting planned for May 2 and is looking for a new venue to accommodate its burgeoning membership. It is now 880 and still growing.

  1. News about old AWARE is disturbibing. When I send my daughters to school I will wonder if the school knows the real agendas behind groups like AWARE before they allow them in. Being a conservative society we should not allow gays or gay ideas to sneak into schools. Our kids being vulnearable must be protected from this group who are increasing becoming well organised, vocal and militant. I suspect many must be in the press given the way the AWARE saga was reported at the beginning.
I would like to call on the authorities to shut down this group as they have proven to be uncredible and not to be trusted.

I empathise with the old guards…

but, I do have one question for Soin or Singam. Ms Soin/Ms Singam: Please confirm if AWARE had indeed ever shown a film showing two women kissing each other for minutes…

Whilst I do not encourage or support homosexuality, I find in unbelieveable that an organisation had taken the trouble to go to school and, if it is true, show such film to innocents students…. What is the purpose of doing this.??

PAP got old guard, AWARE got old guard.

PAP got Minister Mentor, AWARE got Feminist Mentor.

PAP got RCs all over Singapore, AWARE got cell groups all over Singapore [now].

    LOL.

original cause is “oh my god, just listen to your husband, always, even if he’s wrong”.

  5. It is more disturbing to have christian fundamentalists forcing my kids to watch videos on creationism and forcing them to sign some anti-abortion. AWARE should be banned for non-christian schools and students. I don’t want my kids to come running to me saying “non christians cannot ascend heaven”.
