  2. Whoa! Why are so many events falling on 16th May? First, there’s the Singapore Animal Welfare Symposium, then there’s the Pinkdot event, and then this! Unfortunately, I’ve registered for the first, so I’ll have to let this pass.

And I think it’d be better to publicise as early as possible… 16th May is this Saturday, and it’s kinda late for this poster to go up, isn’t it?

it will be good if ticket bearers know how much of the proceeds actually go towards the the use for these homeless.
there are too much disappointment in charity, from the nkf to the ming yi case.
there are many people who are willing to contribute to the cause of charity, transparency is truly needed.

How about $2 for one ticket, but feel free to top up to any amount?

  9. Usually funding by NCSS and/or Community Chest provides for only about 40% of the actual operating budget of any Voluntary Welfare Organisation. If the VWOs do not raise funds, they would have to eventually close down the work. There are hundreds of charities doing good in Singapore. Of the hundreds, only 3 (NKF, Ren Ci and Youth Challenge) have had bad governance. it is unfair to the other charities to be judged by the minorities.

In the case of New Hope Community Services, if they are not able to raise enough funds, the shelters for the displaced families and the men-in-crisis (the only ones in Singapore), may have to be closed down. Please support this fund-raising effort of New Hope Community Services.

  12. I have been homeless at several points in my life. Contrary to popular belief, most homeless did not become so out of choice and not because they are lazy, stupid, or immoral. Many homeless people are victims of abuse in the form of neglect and abandonment by their parents or other caregivers. Some of them are simply victims of life’s tragedies, such as hurricanes, fires, or other catastrophes from which they simply don’t have the resources to recover. I invite you to my blog devoted to raising awareness on homelessness: http://www.freethegods.com. There you will find an article I wrote on homelessness and pictures I have taken of homeless people. I always give them a dollar or two for the privilege of photographing them. I am often surprised by their cheerfulness and sense of pride. Often, they will show themselves to have some kind of talent. There is a fine line between genius and insanity.

How many homeless people are there in Singapore, I believe just a small numbers compared to the huge numbers of foreign workers who required the government to build dormitories for them. Can’t just the government come out the money to build one huge dormitory to house them and provide their daily needs after the amount of money involved are peanuts to the government. I believe the government can if it do not treat this as an economic project.
