If the Opposition wishes to have a geographical constituency, then like the PAP they must work for it and they must earn it. Many people ask the PAP government for many things but surely here a line must be drawn.

It is so ironic to hear Indranee Rajah say, “like the PAP they must work for it…”

Indranee Rajah had two walkovers in the two elections she’s been in so far, hiding behind Lee Kuan Yew in Tanjong Pagar.

    2001:Walkover

    2006:Walkover

    PAP MP Indranee Rajah,
you make grevious mistake that you should never make. How can you even associate that PAP = government ? Is there such a thing call PAP government ?
Since PAP is a competitor in political parties then how can a PAP government even give a chance to OPp party ? How can opp party even work for it and get it if the PAP is the government and the government is partisan and subservient to PAP poltical party only ?

“then like the PAP they must work for it and they must earn it. ”
Opsss. everything to PAP’s credit again, citizen must be transparent after all citizen is just digits to make money.

YOu don’t even understand what is the difference between political party and government and yet you call yourself a MP ? Who so ignorant to appoint you there ? Did you go by the backdoor ?

  4. I’ll like to see her take on Low T K in Hougang and work for her place.

what has she done to earn her stripes??? To me…she’s just a token…thank her lucky star!

  6. Daniel 27 May 2009

If PAP = Government then isn’t MP = Member of PAP not Member of Parliament ? No wonder PM Lee want to fix opp party so to make PAP Government 100% Pure PAP, and no need for opp party member.
    Now I understand.

“what has she done to earn her stripes???”
If bootlicking is a element of meritocracy then she earn her stripes above all else.

““If that day ever comes, then the people are at liberty to vote out the PAP government and should do so in that situation”- Indranee Rajah in response to Mr Low Thia Khiang’s proposition “if the ruling party were to abuse its power, trample on people’s rights and become corrupt.” is totally irresponsible and uncalled for especially coming from someone who is legally trained and should be more conscious of the need of check and balances in the role of Govt, Legislative.

My question to Ms Indranee would be: if we continue with the present system of first past the post system where the winner takes all and there are many walkovers due to the inherent unfairness in the election machinery, how can we assure that the Opposition are able to take the mettle when that time comes? When you don’t allow the people the oppurtunity to vote (due to structural impediments), how can you assure that the people will be able to even exercise the vote when crunch time comes? When the PAP control every aspect of Singapore civil society from the sports, the arts to the trade union, what hope is there for the people to recognize that there is mismanagement on the part of the Government (if that one day exists)?

I do not agree that the the PAP should make way for the Opposition to walk slowly to power but I am against the PAP associating itself with Government and other mechanism of the State. Singapore is an independent sovereign country belonging to its people. Certain features in our democracy need to be tweaked and it should start by not making PAP MPs advisors to many corporate or social groups and trade unions. PAP MPs should understand that walkovers does not mean people like them and vote them in, instead the people are left without choice.

I’m appalled that MP(s) such as Ms Indranee who had never won an election graciously through the elected mandate of the people dare to defend something that is so pro PAP and anti-people. Mr Low’s argument is succinct and well acceptable. PAP MP(s) come bashing the few Opposition (who is without grassroots and all).

PAP, wake up your ideas, please.

    Thank you.

  9. I think what she means is that the line must be (re)drawn. =)

  10. if she said PAP’s MP should work for it, i have not seen my MP in woodland in person (house visiting) since i stay herefd for almost 15 years.
