without jumping into a finger pointing session head on, let’s look at how S’pore arrive at that.

the decades of economic activity (cannot use the word success liao) came with a price:
1) outsourcing of household duties to foreign live-in maids to enable our women to contribute to the economy.
2) increasingly open FT policy increased workplace competition, taking away time from family bonding. attempts to mitigate that, “quality time” bacame a catch phase.
3) the current economic situation meant a fair number of middle income earners had to settle for a more modest salary in new job markets, namely service, retail & security industries. rotating shift work, 6-day workweek is the norm, translating to less time for family.
4) there is an increasing trend of divorce over the years, inversely proportioned to the reduced stigma? resulting in a situation of single parenthood.
5) there is few pro-family workplace policies that is mandatory.
6) there are loopholes in some pro-family policies which companies exploit. reported in MSM, how pregnant women were replaced, & there is little MOM can do to help.

pro company policies will clash with pro family policies, have we struck the right balance?
