Fugitive Mas Selamat nabbed

KUALA LUMPUR: Fugitive suspected Singaporean terrorist Mas Selamat Kastari has been arrested by Malaysian police.

It is learnt the fugitive, who escaped from a Singapore maximum security detention centre on Feb 27, 2008 was arrested in Johor together with two others by Special Branch officers following intelligence sharing between the police forces of Indonesia and Singapore.

Sources said police here who had been on high alert for the suspected terrorist since his escape had gathered intelligence from their counterparts that Mas Selamat was hiding in Johor and was planning to create unrest in several countries in the region.

A massive operation was launched by the Special Branch with the help of other police departments here.

The month-long operation paid off when Mas Selamat who is said to be the leader for the jemaah Islamiah (JI) in Singapore was arrested.

Police also seized documents and other paraphernalia that allegedly showed of their planned operation.

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan confirmed the arrest.

“We are in touch with our international counterparts who were informed about the arrest as well as about what we learnt.

“Our officers are still investigating their activities and networking,” he added.

Mas Selamat was arrested in February 2006 and was sent to Singapore for investigations before he escaped in February last year.

our complaint should be why government announced now, and not later. they should announce later so that the network is not spooked! unless the Msians, Singapore and Indones already have want they want and need and decided to crack down and make public statements.

  4. What's the total cost of his capture? 8 May 2009

MSK has been caught now but can anyone tell me how much of our taxpayer money has been spent in the past year because of ISD’s blunder?

And don’t forget the time wasted and inconvenience caused by all the delays at the checkpoints as well as the cost of all the police patrols on our streets and MRTs.

Haha … what Intelligence?! If MHA is really that ‘intelligent’, Mas Selemat wouldn’t escape in the first place, and for a damn long year across Malaysia.

Now he is captured, MHA can say everything they want. The real effort should go to our neighbour who capture him.

So sick to see the propaganda by ST. Bu$$ sit.

I read that the $1 million reward was a “false alert” offered by some businessmen. If so, shouldn’t they be arrested and jailed for the “hoax” as well?

Good job malaysia, MKA should donate one year of his salary to Malaysian police force.

The Malaysians should have made more political capital out of this. They shld have asked the new PM Najib to hand them over, and with the photo op, the New ST could caption something like, ” Now, make sure you don’t lose him this time!!!”

Our checkpoints, our RSN and Marine Police were all unable to prevent him from getting out of SIN! How proud we shd be!

I wonder if he is still limping?

It is a trick by Wong Kan Seng to expose more members of JI. Letting go of Mas Selamat and track him to the others is the main aim of ISD. This is what PM Lee talk about the talent and genuis of Wong Kan Seng.
