The CEO of SMRT goes to work in a Mercedes. She deserves it because the profits of SMRT has doubled in the past few years. Even as the economic crisis put thousands of Singaporeans out of the job, the SMRT’s latest quarter results show another increase in profits. Yes, the CEO deserves the credit for this success and along with it, her Mercedes Benz.

Of course CEO should drive Mercedez. If not, it should be a BMW7. If you’re a CEO driving a Nissan Sunny, then you’re tak laku. The latest profit increase shows that people are spending less on taxis and private cars and using public transport more. If I got my info correct, SMRT taxis are losing money.
but even Merz got different class wan ler. if economy no good she also can be taxi driver, go for test, pass it & paint her Merz white colour!!
wahahaa…
Yes, SMRT should increase subsidies for the poor and handicapped. Or generally lower its fares across the board to lighten the burden for all. Afterall its near-monopoly of the market must come with social responsibiltiies. But CEO should still drive Mercedes or BMW. Afterall, it costs only about $30,000 per year (amortised) with discount, plus another $6000-8,000 per year of operating costs. I think much of the profit stream come from retailing, besides increased productivity and managed operating costs. Btw, who wants to join a billion-dollar company as CEO and drive a Mazda 6 or Toyota Camry?
Which model of Mercedes does Lucky Tan refer to? TIBS uses Mercedes Buses FYI.
Those taking a taxi, bus or train can at least claim you have a driver compared to SMRT CEO who has to drive herself. Nevertheless she saves money by not hiring a driver and besides that she has to concentrate and exercise care when driving whilst you guys in publc transport can take a snooze, chat , watch telemedia, etc. haha.
SMRT does not set the prices of the train fares. The Public Transport Council, an independent body to approve and regulate bus services, public transport fares and ticket payment services does it.
I hope readers of the online citizen can get that fact right. I also hope the online citizen can also get that right. Articles like these might misinform people.
What is the point of talking about CEOs of private corporations driving expensive cars? What do the people at PTC drive?
i think the quote has a heavy tinge of resentment. rather anti elite for less than good reasons? can say not everyone staying in HDB is a poor dude, something liddat…
not the most suitable quote for the header. if its about subsidy for the poor, maybe their annual profits with shareholder payout is more appropreiate?
