To The Online Citizen:
I refer to your astutely titled, four-part article “Change You Can Believe In?” and applaud you for taking on this difficult, controversial and often highly-charged topic.
In Part One, which opened with details regarding myself, I was concerned with certain sentences that could be misinterpreted. Hence, I would like to clarify the following:
1. Para Two
When asked what I would call my issue, I said transsexualism. This is not the same as saying that “he still calls himself a ‘transsexual’.”
2. Para Three
I do not reject aspects of who I am as a person, and having lived as a transsexual is part of my experience. I can be, and am proud of being who I am as a person, yet there are parts of my identity that needed to be resolved.
However, the statement: “No, I do reject my identity. In fact, I’m proud of it” paints a very different picture.
3. Para Eight
As a Christian, I believe that God has made people (including myself) with different personalities and temperaments. It does not make sense to reject aspects of my identity, who I am as a person and my gender traits – eg. my soft-spokenness which can be mistaken as being feminine.
The quote “If God has made me this way, then it doesn’t make sense to reject my gender identity” is unclear and inaccurate.
In the interest of accuracy and clarity, I request that the above statements, which correctly reflect my sentiments and viewpoint, be made known in its entirety to your readers and commentators.
Thank you.
Regards,
