While the whole world condemns the military junta, our SM went about meeting the senior generals to talk about business as usual. He would have totally avoided mentioning Daw Aung San Su Kyi if not for the sensitive timing. The advice on free and open elections, given to make up for his presence, sounded so hollow and compromising. (as if the junta will give a hoot)

Yes he inherited the regime but there is no excuse to say that he cannot implement reforms. Infact, if anything, I would say he made his regime even more hardline and despotic than his predecessors.
How very kind and undertanding is Wooden to this despicable dictator,
when he should try to be more understanding to the underprivileged in his own
country .

It appears the Burmese junta is happy to entertain Goh C T but unfortunately Goh has poor situation awareness.

If we understand ” birds of a feather, flock together ” ,
then PM Lee, G Yeo, Teo C H, Lui T W etc, etc should put on their military uniforms and visit the Burmese junta instead.

This will demonstrate S’pore is actually run by military personnel and will go a long way to impress the Burmese junta members. Nothing like having a fake democratic system with the law and security apparatus still in one’s pocket.
The Burmese junta can learn from our famiLee junta the art of hoodwinking its citizens and the rest of world.

Uh, the sentence is a tad selfcontradictory, yes? Isn’t a senior general necessarily part of the military? o.o He is the very perpetrator of his military regime.

Dear SM Goh has shot his own foot. Misplaced attempt to exculpate General Than Shwe, perhaps.

There is a difference between the Singapore govt. and the Singapore people..

A distinction has to be made… this govt is not us..

As post #2 has pointed out.. .. nobody really knows if there is a majority behind the PAP govt… In my mind, this govt, the PAP, has not proven that they have the peoples mandate to represent the country.. simply bcos, there never was a FREE and FAIR election.. AND .. the people did not get to vote… I too would like to know the answer to this …..

This govt, I believe, has successfully sold its brand of management to CHINA, VIETNAM and is in the process of gettin the Burmese on a similar path..

As a citizen of Singapore, I am appalled and disgusted by this govt and its dealings with such a regime (junta).. …. Even more so when they do it in my name… …………. and also your name…………

Aiya, SIngapore only respect 2 things, power and business (money) and both must be there.

Don’t care whether you are military dictator or not, corrupt or not, no human rights or not, as long as we can do business and make money, why not?

If Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe or Kim Jong Il of North Korea can provide business to Singapore, I am sure our leaders will also pay them a visit. But because they don’t provide business for Singapore, that’s why no visit.

Due to the last many elections which always have included Walkovers,
I wonder in the whole little country, how many citizens support or not support them?

To the uninitiated, Walkover means voters do not get to vote. The ruling party ‘wins’ simply because lack of opposition candidate to compete in that area.

So, who can say my question is NOT VALID?
Based on this simple fact alone , I like to hear who can convince me they know how many support and not support them.

If the nation does not know this information, and no one knows this info , as in no one in this country and Asia and Europe and Downunder and the Americas and the African continent as well as the islands around the world, and the solar system , the milky way and the galaxies and the black hole and the twilight zone and the parallel universe???

Is my understanding the FACT , a FACT or irrefutable fact?

What can SM Goh do to influence the Burmese Military Junta?

He could not even convince the voters of Potong Pasir and Haugang to vote for PAP despite his promise of HDB upgrading!

May be he has some other motives visiting Burma???
