I used to read the ST but no longer. One get a better picture of the world by reading the New York times and biased BBC on line news. Sadly Mr Gumpert was just trying to get into the PAP regime good favour. Sinkaporean especially the online cummunity is not easily fooled. In fact, ST is just like the People Daily of China. Just a gahment mouth piece. The true free press were either closed or bankcurrupted year ago. Thank to modern cyperspace online news we Sinkaporean could still keep ourself informed. But big brother is not doing nothing about it. They are working hard to block website that they consider undesirable, again like communist China. We must stay vigilant and keep what ever free press from going down the extinction graveyard. Be prepared to be heard and make voice known to the tyrant.

The VW bloke was trying to be politically correct in his press statement.
Unfortunately he may live to regret it when he finds out the true reputation of S.T.
Hopefully his countrymen who are well read and streetsmart will tell him.

Why anyone would want to discredit Volkswagen with such a comparison is beyond me...

I think he trying to support PAP so that the CO. tax will lower. Now at this time, who will buy Volkswagen then Japanese car. Brother, time has change, likewise, you and your co.'s policy will have to change. If not, you will out from this market. Good luck!!!

As for ST. Is control by the gov. What to compare and compete. is just a media tool for the PAP government. So please think before you comment.

Dear Leon Gumpert,
I have very high regards for German made products which are also my benchmark. Without a doubt , the Volkswagen Group is highly respected and recognised by the international community.

However you are so wrong to put Straits Times on par with your company, especially in terms of success and reputation of trust. Unwittingly you have done a serious disservice to the Volkswagen Group, because the S.T. is ranked internationally around 154th for umpteen years and it has to do with reputation.

Please allow me to point out that although S.T. has a history of success in making profits, try to understand it is all about monopoly in Spore and S.T. does not compete in the international business arena like the Volkswagen Group.

The most important point you MR. Gumpert need to digest, is the difference in management philosophy between Volkswagen and Straits Times.

One hoodwinks and the other does not.
