Here’s a clip of PM Lee’s 2008 National Day Rally speech, where he announced the relaxation of rules governing the use of Speakers’ Corner. What will the PM announce tonight in his 2009 speech?

why did the audience laugh?
I don’t know what he will announce tonight, but it is easy to predict was issues he will raise. Just scan the past weeks’ main newspapers stories.. They always try to ‘soften the ground’ first.
So besides the usual economy/jobs issue, there will definitely be more exhortations to produce babies and welcome foreign talents.
I should take this opportunity to say that as a Sporean, I have no problems with having foreigners come here and work and enjoy the fruits of what we have produced over the past decades. But the main question which our ministers have not addressed (as far as I can recall – I may be wrong, becos nowadays when I see any news items about FTs, I tend to skim through them) is the number of such foreigners. There are just too many of them!
I don’t give give a damn what he says. I am still waiting for the spineless PM to do something significant in the interest of citizens…..like getting the senile father and overly ambitious wife to step down and retire for good. That’s the least spineless can do for starters. Enough of freaking speech and no action !
I think he is doing fine. I have a safe home without worrying about riots and bombs. In addition, I have a great business environment where I can earn good money to spend!!
Haiz!! Live if Good!! I have no idea what you guys are complaining about!
:)
nothing inspiring as usual..im actually looking forward to Obama’s visit soon!
Hope springs eternal and I love pleasant surprises.
It would be nice if the Star announces that Ministers and their Nightmare Team will take a pay cut or contribute the obscene 40% increase (which they had since their last increase) to help the deserving poor before more Singaporeans destitute themselves through no fault of theirs! It’ll do that nation good. It’ll put a stop to the mockery of National Service and Nation Building!
It would be nice if, for once, the Star of the Show can admit that it’s okay to screw up. Why keep putting up a front and not admit that some things are not right due to one’s bad decisions. Nobody’s perfect!
If Barrack Obama who earns only one-sixth the Star’s salary can be man enough to admit his mistake, I do not see why the Star can’t.
Surprise me!
It’ll be nice!
It may even win more votes without giving away goodies bags!
Me? I’ll catch a more star-studded show in watching a soccer game in the English Premier League!

basically after so many years, the speech is about the same. there are some annecdotes and story telling to emphasize his points. he will try to explain and address some of the unhappiness. then he talked about FT, babies, unity….
many scholars from PMO came together to write him this national day script which i tihnk he spend time memorising.
if only he covered in same detail about Temasek.
but all in all , impressive audio visual effects , thanks to modern technology i wonder from which country invention?
