George Yeo spoke at the Singapore Blog Awards 2009 yesterday.
“You can be sure, looking ahead, that those who succeed as bloggers or as websites or as web aggregators, they succeed over time because they have established a reputation of trust.”

George Yeo said at 1:39, “And one friend asked, ‘Are you flying?’” I know who this person is. LOL.
Omy has missed the one big elephant in the room in the blogosphere – THE ONLINE CITIZEN
Look at the categories of awards they gave out. Looks like it is designed specially to exclude socio-political bloggers. http://sgblogawards.omy.sg/
“Best laugh-out loud blog”?? What on earth is that?
“Best individual blog”??? Aren’t all blogs “individual” blogs? Then where is the “Best Group Blog” award???
“Best what-the-hell blog”??? What on earth is this??
we do not start a blog to win awards. so it doesnt really matter isnt it?
What on earth is a Minister doing at this type of event? Ministers are not celebrities, they should be running the country! Stop treating them like celebreties. They should never be invited to meddle in such activities, in fact they should be barred from award ceremonies. Are Ministers going to support your activity if the awards contradict their party’s goal? Some Singaporeans need to grow up.
Frog in a well mentality. His article on Tibet was hilarious.
From the ways our highly paid minister and the P65 papees busying engaged in the New Media War, i dont have a single doubt they’ve been tasked to garner Netizens for supporters, and votes.
But how can you win this War if your agenda does not include improving people’s lives, democracies & transparencies in Singapore? Dont use your heads only, use your HEARTS also.
Oh dear, GY was expecting loud “oohs” and “ahhs” at 1:19 but the audience did not respond!
His example from 5:01 to 5:35 is somehow not true of the majority of the disabled in Singapore who are not rich enough to afford the tools. How many employers in Singapore actually employ the disabled thanks to these tools? Especially when even the able bodied cannot find employment.
Lastly, his speech sounds like a secondary school teacher telling his students of his wisdom from the spread of his reading. Notice how he stands at the same spot, shuffling his feet throughout the speech. Hard to imagine this man is worth is ministerial millions.
true, all so true.
that’s way i read lucky tan’s blog, along with mr wang says so and toc.
by the same principle, that’s way i distrust the straits times and all other msm.
thanking you (though we’re paying you millions) for stating the obvious.
Would such awards influence youths to read those that get awarded and would it make them shy from those which did not get one?
I wonder.
wow, he sound more like a scientist and researcher than …..
he used the words “parallel universe”. Question : is this a Theory or a Proven Truth?
Would awards invite people to Trust such blogs?
Just like the Lee Kuan Yew interview with Charlie Rose before this, this speech by George Yeo is yet another opportunity for the Chinese chauvinist PAP government to promote Chinese supremacy.
video from 9:16 to 9:30 shows some of the audience chatting away while that guy was talking and smiling every now and then.
Trust have not changed? well, mine has changed.
Ask the mini bon bon victims.
