These agents, many are not from Singapore, but are natives to these workers. They opened soffice in Singapore and in their home countries to make it look legitimate.
Do you know how many thousands borrow money and pay their agents to come to Singapore to dig gold? And in the end, they found that they have no jobs and were compelled to live in cages. And worst of all, agents took off with all the money. If you were one of the few who sold everything to come, how would you feel?
MOM has been very lax on agents and did not offer much help to foreign workers, instead forcing a lot of them to concentrate by the 100s to go MOM (sit outside whole day and night) to push for help.
Yeah money is good but spare some thoughts for these poor souls. In a first world country like Singapore, this should never be the case!!! We have multi million dollar ministers and we cannot even manage these small problems?
It’s not just workers who are being targeted. Rahim, the manpower agent who appears at around 7:00 in the film, was recently accused of beating up a journalist in Singapore.
many years ago, migrant from china went to dig gold in usa and gone through lots of challenges like racism, discrimination, poor wages, deception etc. Look what history says about them now… pioneers that have made an impact and accepted, with children or descendents of these people achieving greatness in that country. What will history says and shows about these foreign workers? How will historian judges us as a more “developed” society?
