Pre-election test – Name your MPs (Quiz 2)

In Uncategorized • 1,273 views • 42 Comments

With the next General Election not that far away, how well do you know your MPs? For a start, do you know what they look like? Do you know their names and the wards they’re in charge of? For the ministers, do you know which ministries they head?

If you recognize your MPs, what immediately comes to your mind when you see their pictures or hear their names? Which issue/s do you associate with them?

Take this little quiz on each constituency and its MPs. See if you know the names and responsibilities (government departments and ministries they head) of those in the picture.

And please, do not Google them or ask your friends or family members for the answers.

Post your answers in the comment section.

Have a look at the following picture. Which GRC or SMC do the 5 MPs in the picture belong to, what are their names and what do you best associate each of them with?

Take Quiz 1 here.

Very good, wadever. But what’re they in charge of? Which ministry or parliamentary dept/agency? Which CDC?

And don’t use Google!

I wish we have a MILF MP in Parliament, so we can guess how short her skirt will be during each Parliamentary Session.

denise phua: got autistic kid, but don’t hear much of her efforts (if any) in special education.

yaacob ibrahim: environment minister who ignored potential flooding in bukit timah for 10 years.

lee boon yang: always go concerts at esplanade.

lily neo: she genuinely seems to care for the average singaporean, despite her upper class background.

heng chee how: ntuc man.

TOC sorry to ask, are you trying to popularise the presence of PAP ministers and MPs. and do them a good service?

Why not introduce the opposition personnels on this website? Most or all the PAP ministers and MP really need no introduction.

Are we giving PAP a better edge by so doing? Thank you

Hi TOC,

Can TOC do a write up in future on the different GRCs and their respective MPs and their ministry portfolios if any.

Maybe can also interview some of the residents there and find out what are the issues that affect them or the problems in their neighborhood, their perception of their MPs, CDC, RCs etc.

Maybe TOC can also set up an online photo group on google or flickr etc to showcase more photos of their investigative journalism.

Thanks.

People, chill – those who’re questioning the purpose of this quiz.

As for the opposition MPs, one quiz at a time. We’ll feature them later.

Just have fun with this la. No need for conspiracy theories. ;)

Ms Denise Phua: She spearheaded the change for special needs trust fund that recently Vivan Balakrishnan announces. On top, she changed the Special Education landscape in Singapore, so much so that the children with special needs got an equal chance for quality education as any other mainstream normal kid. She is like the champion for the underdogs. She in charge of Kampong Glam whom she helps alot of needy residents, one of the poorest constituency in Singapore

Minister Yaacob Ibrahim: Environmental and Water minister I think. incharge of all water research works and resources in Singapore. He is incharge of Kolam Ayer.

Dr Lee Boon Yang: Former MICA head. Push for New Media, Podcast, etc. He is in charge of Jalan Besar

Dr Lily Neo: Honestly, I only know she is a doctor and she is incharge of Chinatown area where there are many needy chinese seeking help during Meet-the-People Session. She is incharge of Kreta Ayer.

Mr Heng Chee How: I only know him as he is working in NTUC. Don’t really know him well.

There was a Singaporean who went to jail recently because of something in which Denise Phua is involved.

Heng Chee How ran in Hougang and lost. (Go Hougang!) The next GE he went into a GRC.

I am also a vet
Nov 26, 2009 11:41

To TOC, I agree we have fun with this quiz , like Joker , 12) has done. LOL

Dr. Lee Boon Yang is the anchor man for the GRC and I recall reading somewhere that he is a vet by training. If what I read is true, then It is reasonable to assume the rest in his team are running dogs. And of course like all pets, they have names too.

I have to hand it to the PAP grandmaster. He deserves my praise to heaven.
It is indeed foresight and great strategy to have a vet around when there are so many running dogs in the party. Come to think of it, they must be really obedient and well behave. That is why only one vet is needed…..LOL

It doesnt matter if the public know or dont know the MPs. The most important thing is, do they know the people who voted for them?

Freak Election to elect Freaky Ministers
Nov 26, 2009 13:58

Since TOC tells us to have fun, I shall attempt to enjoy this as a fun thing. Thus:

I see one freaky man who goes around saying freaky things,
I also see one ex-Malaysian who goes around for flings,
There is also an old woman who is kind and cares,
But there is also a jumbo pet dog who licks and snares,
The last of which is none other than a vet who dares.

PS: If TOC is sincere about this being a fun thing, why deleted #12 Joker’s witty comments?

i was wondering is this quiz promoting pap party?

Freaky is as Freaky does
Nov 26, 2009 14:34

It gives me a FREAKY Feeling each time there are so many walkovers and people simply accept and its even more FREAKY when the EXTREME STRONG TURNOUT resulted in no additional wins by opposition.

How to Reconcile this phenomenon?

Looks like the red shirts of Thailand?

I only know two chaps – one who freaked out during the recent Bt Timah flood as he has been discovered for doing nothing despite knowing the problem more than ten years ago. I shall refer to him as Freak Mini$ter.

And the other is an animal doctor, that is why he has so many well-trained obedient dogs around him. He should change his profession. In there for so long, yet cannot make the $millions as a Mini$ter.

As for the other 3, they are the pets (running dogs) kept by the Vet Doc.

The quiz should not be on “Who They Are” but on

“What They Have NOT Done For US”

the rest, no idea

ministries? no idea

honestly, they’ve not done anything to make me remember them….heck, i don’t even know who is my constituency mp!!

What Change?
Nov 26, 2009 22:42

Only Lily Neo deserves any mention. The rest are redundant, especially the baby faced guy on Dr. Neo’s left who collects a second salary as a major. GRC is Jln Besar, which before this group were represented by unsavoury persons like Choo Wee Kiang and the “Tekka so black’ guy.

If I’m not mistaken the NTUC man, Heng lost to Chiam in Potong Pasir during GEs in 1990s but he is not as lucky as Mah, also a GE loser to Chiam in 1984.

Mah joined a GRC later in 1988 GE to become a MP (all thanks to LKY’s brainchild – GRC), from there on Mah became a junior minister, the rest is history.

At least some of you still remember them as your MPs. For me in ponggol/sengkang, I can only remember 1 MP face to face during the PAP meet the people session. Why is it so? just 1 visit and up till today I can still remember this MP so well, becos they made me wait for almost 3 hours just to see this small little gayish man comes in from the main door with his 3 balls licking grassroot oldies carrying all his bags and documents into his room, make coffee for him and know what? a guy came to me and ask me if I do have anything important to see the MP? what the fcuk is this? finally ended up meeting one of the old uncle, hardly speaks or write any english and taking almost 1/2 hour just to write 2 sentences while interviewing me. That’s how I realised how good and efficient all these pap MIW are from then on.

Direct lift access not always possible: HDB

Letter from Chee Kheng Chye Deputy Director (Upgrading Programmes Management) Housing and Development Board (HDB) 05:55 AM Nov 26, 2009

WE THANK Mr Ryman Lim for his feedback on the newly-upgraded lifts (picture) at Block 340 Clementi Ave 5 (“Not wheelchair-friendly at all”, Nov 5).
The objective of the Lift Upgrading Programme (LUP) is to provide direct lift access to the flats for the convenience of residents. For most blocks, this has been achieved through the upgrading of existing lifts or the addition of a new lift. However, there is a small number of blocks where direct lift access is not possible due to site or technical constraints. Block 340 is one such block.

HDB has earlier explored various options to overcome the site constraints. However, the only viable LUP solution then was a “half-landing solution”. While this solution could not provide direct access to the flats, it would improve the existing situation by reducing the number of steps that residents have to climb. Hence, the solution was supported by the residents for implementation.

The blue stickers on the new lifts indicate that the lift car is wheelchair friendly as it comes with handrail bars, and the doors are wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair. It does not suggest that full barrier-free accessibility has been achieved.

We empathise with Mr Lim’s situation, and seek his understanding on the LUP solution implemented for his block.

Just from the above photo or group mug shot posted by TOC, I see a smiling vet with his bunch of favourite pets.
In fact Lee Boon Yang can claim to be Dr Dolittle, a vet who can talk to animals.

Frankly the pets in the group mug shot look healthy and well fed, so I guess the vet must be doing a good job for old fart who is essentially the owner.

Denise Phua: an MP who does not tow the Party line and speaks from where she stands, and firmly believes in them. Made it possible that special education is even receiving attention at all

Yaacob Ibrahim: looked into sustaining Singapore’s potential lack of water resources and initiated programs to make Singapore self-reliant

Lee Boon Yang: former Minister from a range of portfolios that included Defence, Community Development and Information. Placed Singapore on the global IT roadmap

Dr Lily Neo: not much really known about her, but she was part of the Primary Education Review and Implementation Committee that advocated for an overhaul of the primary school teaching system

Heng Chee How: Former MOS for Health and current Dy-Sec of NTUC. One of the pioneer Mayors in Singapore who set the standard for public administration at district level

It is pretty abysmal that the comments posted herein are made in bad taste. I don’t think that name-calling would be the best alternative to showing how bad PAP is.

If the objective is to vent at the government, the least one can do is be partial even in anger.

For the case of Mr Lim Beo Thiam (resident in Jalan Besar), are we absolutely sure that he is goody-two-shoes and incapable of human error? Can he possibly twist the truth to gain public sympathy? Do we know his absolute background? Maybe go find out and we can get a fuller picture.

Over the issue of LUP. Perhaps structural reasons ARE the reasons for not upgrading. Are there any other plausible reasons why LUP didn’t take place, other than the usual reasons of ‘Oh shit, the PAP is trying to buy votes’ or ‘Crap, they deliberately forgot us’.

I think sometimes, we mustn’t let our undying need to oppose the government for opposition sake. If that is something that needs to be done, then at least be constructive about it.

If I support A against B, and I start to call B all sort of crude names, I am effectively saying that B is better than A. Calling names and giving labels to individuals, if anything, will unfortunately make yourself and your comments look irrational, powerless, and at best, uncertain; you are mostly likely to end up scoring your own goal. Yes, your own goal. Shouldn’t we be fair to what/who we stand up for?
