Remember GE2006 – Sylvia Lim’s tenacity

During GE 2006, PM Lee Hsien Loong said, “Right now we have Low Thia Khiang, Chiam See Tong, Steve Chia. We can deal with them. Suppose you had 10, 15, 20 opposition members in Parliament. Instead of spending my time thinking what is the right policy for Singapore, I’m going to spend all my time thinking what’s the right way to fix them, to buy my supporters votes, how can I solve this week’s problem and forget about next year’s challenges?”

In this two-part video, Sylvia Lim delivered a rousing rebuttal to PM Lee’s remarks.

One on one with Indranee Rajah or any of the PAP stooge, my money is on Sylvia, even with Old Fart campaigning against the latter,

Keep up the good work TOC ! It is never boring to be reminded of the spineless speech made by the spineless PM. He will forever be remembered for the wrong reasons. What a freaking laugh.

It should come as no surprise to hear PM Lee talked about “fixing”. After all, he must have learnt “fixing’ from his father. Who else in Spore’s history can come close to Old Fart in the art of “fixing” ?

father and son team, the strongest “political combination”==most poisonous ‘double headed snacks’, in this world with combined annual salaries of >7millions, father talked to obama at the same time, son met-up with bush==sure win no lose, So pretentious yet proclaimed to a “honest gentleman”, if they proclaimed to be number 2 “hypocrites” in this world, no-one else in this world will dare to claim to be number 1!!!! Hahahahaha……

In business strategies, one manager has to think of both short solutions and long terms strategies/challenges,

LHL ought to be so good because the DAD claimed he has the talent, wisdom and strength of 5.

Still feel that WP is not up to standard yet. Now if WP were to be electable, then Lim should have been better than PM. Not to say that PM is good, but Lim’s speech was just as bad. It really could’ve been much better. After seeing her performances in parliament, I think this speech isn’t one of her best thus far.

Sylvia is indeed a gem among the opposition. Voters are truly blind if they do not vote for her and her team in the upcoming election.

She is cool, collected, articulate, intelligent, analytical, passionate, kind-hearted and humble.

People has been clamouring for a quality and credible opposition candidate for a long time and yet I do not think they will know when such a one came up and bite them in the assess.

If we want more quality and credible opposition members, we must first demonstrate that we will support such a one when one stepped up to contest in election. Else we do not deserve one at all.

I dare say that given enough time and experience, Sylvia would make a good minister and even become PM material should the opposition ever become the ruling party.

Yes, I do like to see Sylvia become our PM one day.

The Situation of Weak Opposition party explained based on my perspectives:

Why is it so many Talents join PAP and so few if any join Opposition?

Why don’t they join Opposition?

Is it because opposition leaders life and career are tougher?
Is it because of income?

If people accept democracy, why don’t they join Opposition to make it stronger ?
If people do not accept democracy, why are they here ?

These Excuses for not joining the Opposition are flawed :

1. Bad reputation given to a party: Can always form a new one right? New party cannot have bad reputation to begin with if you have good talents.

2. Lack of talents in Opposition : Are you not the Talent ?

3. Lack of history : History is how you make it. Past Performance need not necessarily guarantee for Future Performance.

Is it wrong to have opposition or have opposition parties, why are they allowed to register? Does not the constitution allow for them?

If you support your party, have you spoken up about its flaws and criticise it in public?

What do the workers party stand for? They dont seem to take a stand on any major issue, except to give a speech in Parliament which sounds a lot like some of the stuff from the PAP backbenchers. Anyone can give a speech. Do something! Advocate for an issue!

and i rmb very well how the media covered up this horrible speech from PM lee. It aired once at the 7pm news slot, stacked in the middle of other unimportant news. Rather special if we rmb how election news always dominate headlines. And then, for the remaining news slots, there was no mention of this horrible speech anymore. Good one mediacorp.

Well said.
“If you don’t know wher you are going, any road will take you there.”

I read some judging OPP by presentation styles, some saying they don’t do enough, forgetting all their grumblings that MSM do not give them coverage, which may be why they appear to do nothing.

Singaporeans ever put Opposition to Power in the past.
So, it is possible technically speaking and based on solid evidence of history.

The opposition just have to capture the support.

So far, they have not done enough.

X-Factor is sorely missing.

Give this lady the support. She has proven her worth in the past few years that she is responsible and a constructive opposition, not lacking in talent or creativity.

We will hold those people who say they support the opposition vote to show by action not just talk.

Too much inbreeding is unhealthy. Scientifically, cross pollination produce better results.

Ms Silvia Lim is great. She much better than many of the PAP scholar elite uncaring type, especially the one who has daughters who look down upon the commoners and the lesser endowed, the one who is now famous for her “Get out of my elite uncaring face”.

I admire sylvia n others who are like her pressing on for the voiceless n helpless causes..but as a chairman of THE opposition party she shld be also have more presence outside of Parliament, including forums, media etc. For example, I would like to knw what are the Party’s view on the escaped Romanian diplomat, or what are their views on the legal amendment to ‘contempt of court’.. are any of the Parties active at all?
