I sometimes wonder why people don’t seem to feel embarrassed. They hold high positions; they can’t be stupid to have gotten to where they are. Yet they kowtow to their political masters so low, they not only kiss their feet, but suck their toes.

Welll…they have all become stepford wives and husbands for their masters! Programmed to obey. Have u seen their eyes? Unusually blank…like in a daze always!
I am curious, if the act of sucking of demigods’ toes have anything to do with being respectful or being grateful for the high standard of living.
It could be another one of those “asian” values that these people subscribe and thus they do not think it shameful.

They just do not talk straight in which they are supposed to – for a reason they know themselves.
In this current time of a knowledgeable society, who cares if they are holding high positions which may well have been due to their good luck & fortune.
It is like spewing out rubbish for as long as it is possible and as it is still permitted by the power which the kind & “good supportive” people happened to hand it to them without much questioning.

They are not stupid. They know that in order to go higher and further, they must continue to be a Yes Man, if not they will be stripped of their positions as many are in the Q.
I think it is more likely that these people genuinely believe in what they are saying. Hard to imagine but hey everyone has the right to his or her opinion.
It is a self selection process actually. Those who don’t believe will never rise up to where they are now.

I tend to think the PAP political culture is more perverse with many willing to suck more than just toes to get ahead.
Don’t care what Alex Au, Tom, DIck or what not bloggers or people say , feel or think.
Most important is winning big again at the next elections.
With that mandate the govt can concentrate to do whatever they think is best for the nation. And not be distracted.
By the way, best for the nation is not necessarily also best for individuals and also depending on what individuals.

Quite true. It also a process buildup during their earilier careers. Even starting from ECA during schooldays. Starting with – this is my country and ending with – he is my God.
If the constant sucking of toes if can turn out sweet then why not?
Those are the rewards and such sweet suckable toes can be addicitve and unresistable.

I can only conclude that in any society, there are always people who are willing to swap their conscience with money and power.
Especially when you are talking about millions of dollars and tremendous power to impact people’s lives.
Suppressing one’s conscience is easy. Smart people know how to rationalize so that they can sleep soundly at night.

Even my 11 yr-old child does not find many things the Ministers say logical – like raising GST is to help the poor, ST’s 133rd position shows it continues to be a credible source of info, traditional media is free and uncontrolled unlike new media, etc nonsense. You mean the Ministers who say what they say genuinely believe what they are saying? Do you really mean it? Should judgement be based on logic/reason or beliefs and myths?
